Protein shakes? Which protein powder?

I'm peri menopausal, I need to lose weight. However, it has to be healthy.

When I had my DCs I was hospitalised with hyperemesis gravidarum and I still feel sick (and sometimes I am sick if I try to eat) in the mornings.

My gynae has suggested that I make protein shakes, bovine collagen as I can't eat marine collagen.

I don't want the kind of protein that men in the gym use to build them up!

What are the best powders? Do you know a good site for recipes?

Ah sorry misunderstood your post about the collagen!

There is a Hunter and Gather bovine collagen powder. I haven't tried it as I can't tolerate some of the ingredients. I also make protein shakes every now and then (am also in peri though wishing I was through it and out the other side!). I use peanut butter/bananas/0% high protein yoghurt and mix the powders in. Or I blend the yoghurt and berries with powders like others do.

I also use MyProtein products. Obviously you won’t build muscle by taking a protein powder. If you are trying to lose weight you will need to be aware of the calories however you use your powder.

i mix 40g of powder with 200mls of semi skimmed milk. That’s 265 cals and 39g of protein.

You can buy various flavours. I use vanilla and sometimes add a bit of chocolate powder or coffee.

I think you can buy collagen products separately and add them in.

This is lovely with coconut milk. Double chocolate powder, milk up to about 80mls then water up to 300mls is it? Follow the recipe, anyway!

I had a friend who'd tried loads and who said that was best - I drank for a while and loved it. Get a seal lock Tupperware pot type thing, as it works better when you can shake it up fully.
