How do you keep a track of your calorie intake?

I just went to add my daily food to Nutracheck but you can only add 5 items in a day. That won't be enough.

What do others do?

Do you use a pay app to help count your calories, roughy guess / mental note, write it all down pen and paper style or something else?

A free app would probably be my preferred option if anyone knows if one that is quite intuitive and easy to use.

Thanks

Have been doing a Noom free trial, but am going to switch to MyFitnessPal when it ends.

For free or do you pay a subscription?

My Fitness Pal is free and very easy/accurate. All I would say is don't use it to calculate the calories you need. Google a calorie deifict calculator and go off that then put the target calories in the MFP app

LadyVictoriaSponge · 24/07/2022 20:11

I just use my calculator on my phone, I could go on masterminded with calories as my specialist subject so I find it really easy, also I pretty much eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch every day and my evening meal is on a 7 day rota so I know my daily calories before I’ve had my breakfast!

Another vote for MFP, free version does the job nicely. Agree with the above poster who said about inputting your own target calories. The amount MFP gave me was way off.

WhereTheLightningBugsBlaze · 24/07/2022 20:18

The issue with MFP is that any old Tom dick or Harry can add values in, so when you are adding in your 100g of cheese or whatever the actual calorie content may or may not be correct.

nutracheck is paid for but works out at £1 a week, or 60p per week of you sign up for a year (if the offer is still on)

Ah yes I'm just using this for now as I wanted to see if I had enough calories for supper.

It's giving me 1300 through the app.

Nutracheck paid is worth it. It's really good.

Good point!

Thinking of just paying the £3.99 per month for a few months until I have a better sense of what I'm consuming.

I think Nutracheck gives me 1400 calories compared to my fitness pal. Plus a further 200 calories if I exercise which could increase my calories to 1600 if I choose to eat them.

OP posts:
Dspx · 24/07/2022 20:25

If you have a look on nutra check they sometimes have deals on. I think I payed £24 for the year last year. X

SnowyMouse · 24/07/2022 20:29

I use myfitnesspal, it's free and no limits on number of items logged.

gwenneh · 24/07/2022 20:29

I use a food scale and My Fitness Pal.
And while yes, anyone can add values, there are verified values in there (they have a green tick.)

user1000000000001 · 24/07/2022 20:41

How
Do I change the calories on my fitness pal from 1300 to 1400 please?

I may do a week with that and then consider if I should pay for Nutracheck.

Ideally though I'd rather a free calorie counter and use that money towards gym.

TooHot2022 · 24/07/2022 20:46

Does MFP not adjust calorie targets for steps/ exercise taken?

This is a feature of Noom I quite like and it seems to be working.

tootiredtospeak · 24/07/2022 21:09

I pay 3.99 for Nutracheck it isnt a lot but if you really need it free add in the first 5 an write down the amount of calories. Then delete that and start again. Add it up on a note app on your phone

That's interesting- do you think MFP underestimates, or overestimates?
