Does your body do this too?

I'm working on dropping some weight. It's taken me a while as I got into the habit of boredom snacking in the evenings, but with the combo of a Fitbit and MFP, I've turned a corner and lost 2.5 kilos in the last 2 weeks.

Trouble is (and this has happened before) at some point when I eat less, my body almost 'goes off' food altogether and the thought of eating makes me feel a bit nauseous.

Today, for example, I had two cups of black coffee and a banana for breakfast, and then for lunch a 2-egg omelette with broccoli, cherry toms and some little bacon bits cooked into it.

Based on the movement I've done, MFP is telling me I've got another 1,250 calories to eat today.

I've got a salmon fillet defrosting in the fridge and some brown rice and spinach to go with it, but the thought of eating anything at all just feels gross. I could quite easily go the rest of the day on just water now, but I don't want to eat too little each day and end up tired all the time.

Does your body do this, too? What's going on?

Should I be grazing more throughout the day, rather than a couple of normal-sized meals?

Me. I just eat what my body will tolerate. Stuffing a body with food to meet a calorie number does not seem like a good idea.

Sure, @GothamGirl1970 - I completely agree. But I don't think three small meals in a day is really 'stuffing my body with food', is it? Under-eating by 1200 calories would be a pretty significant deficit, and I don't want to end up brain-foggy or exhausted over time.

I'm guessing those calories left to eat are factoring in what you've 'burned' or used/exercised- I wouldn't take any notice of them personally, and just make sure I was having a sensible amount of nutritious food.
I can relate to what you're saying about getting fed up of food though. For me I go in cycles, I either can't seem to fill my stomach or the though of a meal overwhelms me. Seems to be worse when I'm obsessive about counting cals.

@monsterastuckiosa
stuffing meaning if it feels like you have to stuff it in when you can’t tolerate eating. Not meaning that you are overeating. Sorry that came across wrong x

I never go off my food 🙄. I'd suggest just eating light maybe a yoghurt?

Gotcha - yes, I hear you. It definitely doesn't feel right to force it, I just wonder why my body's switching off the hunger and if it's because I'm going about this wrong somehow.

@ISeeTrees it's the oddest sensation. After spending a long time genuinely craving food even when I knew I wasn't hungry, this feels like a switch has flipped somewhere and I can't make sense of it.

I wonder if it's hormonal?

Hi, this happens to me all the time. Just one of those weird things.
If you’re concerned that you’re going to run out of energy, I was recommended the below by a dietician (I frequently struggle to eat)
teaspoon peanut butter
teaspoon honey
a banana
milk or yogurt
blend it all and drink
it’s been revolutionary for me and my eating struggles.
