Protein shakes

I’ve started having a protein shake for breakfast and like that I can have it on the go but the one I found is quite high in sugar.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

Sorry, I do not have recommendations but looking for a breakfast shake that would keep hunger away for 3-3.5 hours.
I would like to follow 3 meals diet with a smoothie/shake for breakfast and two whole meals (paleo type).
But I feel very hungry two hours after taking the smoothie so would like to find one that would keep me for 3+hours.

Take a look at the new you plan. I'm not sure how their shakes compare but it is probably worth a look.

I don't drink many of the shakes as I'm not particularly sweet toothed but I do like their café latte flavour shake heated up with some proper coffee. It keeps me going for a good few hours.

I usually have one of their soups for lunch- it's like a cup o soup and I don't get hungry for a good five hours.

Thanks both

I got Nuzest individual packs from Whole Foods shop. Will try one pack tomorrow and let you know if it works.

I’ve been having the Slimfast vitality shakes, higher protein and much lower in sugar than the original version. Not sure if it’s as protein rich as you’re after though.

Look at proper protein powders. I used to use them, you can compare the nutritional info to what you have, but this is good:

I used myprotein for years, so can recommend.

Just eat protein?

Desmondo2021 · 05/07/2022 14:30

I don't use shakes for weightlostt but do use a protein shake after my workouts or long runs. My current go to is Ufit because their gingerbread flavour ones are on a good price at the mo so I bought in bulk. When I more organised I use protein powder and make it with coconut milk. If I was using it as a meal replacement I would have some protein in food form alongside it... A couple eggs scrambled or some sliced cold meat.

But if you're going to do that, why not just eat more protein? What's the point of the shake? It's really not hard to get enough protein without supplementing.

Desmondo2021 · 05/07/2022 21:20

Speed, time, ease... I keep cooked chicken in my fridge so takes seconds to grab a shake and some cold meat. Same with pre boiled eggs. Variety is the spice of life and like them or not, a shake is a easy way to get 25gms of protein down you in seconds.

Just eat protein?

As I said it’s for mornings that I need to grab something on the go.

PhD diet whey is my favourite. The salted caramel
flavour is great (mint chocolate is also good). Low sugar versus other brands and it is quite filling.

Sallypally0 · 05/07/2022 22:07

Nobody can give you any good comments unless you elaborate on your post. Why are you having a protein shake for breakfast? If this is all you are putting in you body of a morning no matter what your goals this is a very poor breakfast.

Cheerios257 · 05/07/2022 22:14

I quite liked the ufit shakes… around 25g of protein and no added sugar

Badger1970 · 05/07/2022 22:25

I struggle to eat in the mornings but am diabetic so often have a protein shake. I like the Slimfast vitality ones as they're low sugar but they are small bags and expensive. I usually get the USN dietfuel ones - the strawberry and chocolate are both palatable and I make using half unsweetened soya milk/half water and lots of ice. It's also nice to just mix the powder in with unsweetened greek yogurt and some berries - tastes a bit like cheesecake mix.

Other good ones are Purition as they're more whole food based but they are higher in calories.

Penguintears · 05/07/2022 22:28

Banana, cocoa powder, peanut butter, milk. Blend the night before amd keep it in the fridge. Cheaper and much better for you than processed stuff.

You can add stuff like chia seeds, flax seeds, nuts, blueberries etc if you want.

Or overnight oats with peanut butter/nuts.

wwyd2021medicine · 05/07/2022 22:36

I use PhD diet protein
Use before gym if I go after work as something to keep me going or post workout. 100ish calories
For breakfast I have Greek yoghurt with fruit (defrost the night before from frozen) and random seeds

sleepraptor · 07/07/2022 21:29

I use this as it has no sugar and put loads of veg in (mainly greens, also avocado for good fats and keeping you full) along with bit of plant based milk and water and some frozen berries:
