I think a quote from a weight loss coach has given me the push I need

The coach would’ve given me a meal plan and 3x30min work-outs a week. I would’ve had to invest quite s bit of time explaining my food preferences, daily habits and routines, emotional thought processes etc.

It would cost £4k for a 4 month programme.

i am going to spend an hour or two or three tomorrow doing my own plan. I will think through my triggers for eating shit and try to work through some of the emotional stuff.

i haven’t been able to get my head in the right place over the past couple of years but the thought of paying £4k just makes me think get a sodding grip and lose the 10kg with a bit of bloody commitment.

I’m all for outsourcing but this just feels ridiculous.

Anyone else gone it alone??

4k is insane!!

Lots of people rate Noom which would cover the psych / emotional / food education aspects
If you want a meal plan fine for you try something like diet chef or one of the other meal delivery companies
Thousands of workout plans on you tube

I've lost 3st since January doing a combination of intermittent fasting, couch to 5k and cutting crap out of my diet.

I'd print out the quote and pin it to the fridge as motivation! Good luck 😃

£4k seems excessive. I got myself a PT a few years ago and they were amazing, some of the best money I've spent. For about £180 a month, I got four 121 one hour sessions plus a workout plan (three to five day split) and help with my diet. I learned so much about food from the PT that I could have a really varied diet that wasn't chicken and rice. I lost 2.5st quickly and hit target weight, exercise is now a massive part of my life which helps with my mental health, I eat massive calories now to maintain and my understanding of food and nutrition is so much better. Having a PT did give me some accountability so I couldn't slack off, they motivated me when I hit a wall and would point out my successes and progress so it made me feel good even when I was struggling. I've been going it alone since the pandemic and it's been tough. It's difficult to keep coming up with challenging and varied workouts with nobody there to bounce ideas off or push you towards goals. I couldn't have done it without the PT in the early stages. If you're not averse to spending a bit of money, I'd definitely recommend getting a PT to get started.

I second getting a PT. Also, go to a decent sized bookshop and browse for a diet nook
that speaks to you as following someone else’s approach might help if you are lacking motivation

It is with someone who’s got 150k followers on instagram so I guess can charge that much. All online.

I just thought “hang on, they will spend a few hours making the plan, then a zoom every few weeks and texts in between, wtf? I could do so much with that £4k and SURELY I can create a plan myself”

Most of it is being organized, having a meal plan to work to, not raiding the kids snacks and having a word with myself.

I’ve got the bodycoach app which is good for meal planning and a gazillion recipe books. I’ve got Apple fitness and a lot of lovely nature around me. Feels like I’ve got all I need, just need to do bloody do it. And I will not part with £4k in order to do it!

£4K is extortion.

£100/week will get you a gym membership plus 2 quality PT sessions and probably an online check in / phone call. Combine that with hello fresh / gousto type meals and you'll be well on your way to a healthier life

NavyNails2 · 27/06/2022 18:53

I use an online coach that costs £117 a month. For that I get use of an app which has 3 tailored workouts for me (these change as I progress), and a calorie and macro aim. Weekly check in and can message 24/7 if I am struggling with anything. £4000 is absurd.

BornIn78 · 27/06/2022 18:54

It’s the having someone that you are accountable to that is worth the money (although 4K would be excessive in some peoples opinions).

The thing is… have you done it yet, what you said you’d do 2 days ago? Have you spent a few hours meal planning? Got out the past 2 days for a walk or some form of exercise? Or have you found reasons/excuses not to do it?

Shoopshoopshoopshoopshoop · 27/06/2022 18:56

4K is insane! Find a good PT. My online coach is £120/month. Number of IG followers is no reflection on how good they are and potentially they will give you something generic and not specific to your coaching needs and they don’t have the time to give you what you need.

In a big fan of the EC Method Podcast, I don’t follow their plan but a very similar one and I love their ethos and how informative they are. ESG Fitness also gives great advice on her IG posts.

fruitpastille · 27/06/2022 19:15

4 grand is insane. My gym offers 3x group classes a week with a coach and nutrition planning with support and accountability to a coach for 6 weeks for a couple of hundred.

Jackiewoo · 28/06/2022 15:00

how much? fucking hell.

Before you spend anything, try 16:8 using a free fasting app (can recommend Fastic) which sends reminders of the time and water consumption, myfitness pal if you want to track exercise and what you eat, cut out stodge and junk and work out a healthy meal plan using Louise Parker or similar. I've done it, friends have done it, we've all lost loads of weight and kept it off. The Fastic app was suggested by a friend who is a doctor, she lost 5 stone. You have to be strict but after a week you don't notice, its normal.

If you're an emotional eater, read this (every day if needs be). https://www.reddit.com/r/loseit/comments/ak1h2y/howiiquitbingeeeatingaaguideforrthose_who/

If you still want to spend £4000, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.

Dinoteeth · 28/06/2022 15:06

Some people know how to charge £4k for 4 mths. So £250 per week for what?

Op you are right you could do better yourself. Or pay a blinking chef 👨‍🍳 for that.
