Gastric balloon - any experiences?

I’ve had an initial consultation, and am due to be seeing dietician tomorrow. I don’t qualify for any other form of bariatric surgery due to my BMI.

I need to lose between 2-3 stone, I’ve yo-yo’d for years, lose a stone put one on, lose 3, put it back on, it’s making me miserable. My parents are both huge, and it terrifies me that if I don’t do something that’s my fate.

Dr seemed to think it would work, I’m usually great during the week, then over eat the wrong stuff at weekends.

any experience would be really helpful thanks

Watching with interest. I can't help thinking though that if you've yo yo's for years there's a very good chance you'll put back on whatever you lose once the balloon is removed. Sounds harsh I know but I assume it's quite expensive?

at lightest I’ve been 9 stone, heaviest 13 1/2. I don’t think I appreaciated my weight when I was at my lightest, and understood how easy it could go back on if that makes sense.

When I say yo-yo it’s usually stone off stone on …. I need to get back to that 9 1/2 stone mark… once I’m there I’ll work hard not to fuck it up. I’m certain of that.

Hopefully, once there, being “good” during the week and relaxing a bit at weekends will work for me?

Hey @Chocbuttonsandredwine it's been a while since your thread, I was wondering whether you went for it with the balloon and whether you got the results you were after, or if not, what put you off and did you find something else that worked for you?

Thanks

Hi. Well….

i went in for the surgery yes. Went ok. Came home and started throwing up and literally couldn’t stop. I’ve never been so ill. They eventually re admitted me, put me on a drip and gave me all sorts of anti sickness drugs, none of which worked.

after 4 days they took me back to theatre and removed it. A very expensive mistake.

however. I started with ozempic in April this year and have just reached my 3 stone mark. It’s worked for me combined with exercise and really cutting back. I’m at about 1200kcal a day. It’s not been easy, but then it never is, but it’s certainly helped having the injections

Oh no, that sounds awful. Thanks for sharing though. Well done on the 3st!
