What is an easy and simple to follow diet?

I have 2 stone to lose after having a baby 4 weeks ago. Usually to lose weight I count calories and that's always worked but i just don't have the time now to weigh, scan labels and track ingredients, I'm lucky if I eat lunch before 3pm!

I'm looking for a diet or diet rules that are easy to follow and don't need much thought or extra work e.g. don't eat after a certain time or avoid certain foods.

What simple diet has worked for you? How do you stay accountable?

Breastfeeding is the easiest way. But otherwise I would not be caring one jot about losing any weight at this point. Get out with the pram and walk a lot when you're ready but at this point you need to just relax with your baby.

Have you heard of the No S Diet?

Rules are:

No sweets
No snacks
No seconds

Except on days beginning with S (Saturday, Sunday and "special days" which means your birthday or Christmas etc)

Sounds gimmicky and also somehow not hard enough, however, I did lose weight on it one time and it does help build better habits around food. Or for me it does, as I'm a terrible grazer.

Carnivore.

Only meat and animal products. You don’t have to do it forever but it’s great for a health and weight reset.

No calorie counting, no weighing or measuring. Just eat until you’re full.

BeHappyItIsEasier · 18/06/2022 14:28

Just noticed you're only 4 weeks pp! Don't worry about it now op! You will also maybe affect milk supply if you diet strictly, so not a good idea to do proper dieting.

Just eat healthily and go for walks.

I lost a tonne of weight breastfeeding once my dc had got a really big appetite, which was around 8 weeks.

BeHappyItIsEasier · 18/06/2022 14:29

And very low carb isn't recommended for breastfeeding women. It's actually really dangerous. Even the pro low carb sites say that. So don't do carnivore!

@CallmeMrsPricklepants I've been feeling really good since about 2 weeks post partum so think it's a good time for me to get back on track. I had a fairly horrible pregnancy with complications so was either comfort eating or carbs were the only thing i could stomach so am sick of eating badly. Looking after my little one is the priority but a healthy mum to allow me to do this as best I can is a close second!

Unfortunately I couldn't solely breastfeed so am combination feeding which hasn't the same weightloss effect.

Only drink water, tea and coffee. No sugar in tea and coffee no flavoured water. It’s amazing how many hidden calories there are in soft drinks and alcohol. No diet drinks either as they still affect your insulin

Thalatta · 18/06/2022 14:42

You still need to think about your own nutrition when combination feeding.

I lost 3 stone after DD was born through BFing, some exercise every day and just watching what I ate- no puddings or sweets stuff and if I was having eg toast for breakfast I'd have one slice then think whether I wanted a second rather than automatically having two. And I lost the weight very quickly.

4 weeks pp is really no time and you're still recovery from the pregnancy and labour. I'd just try to eat healthily with plenty of fruit and veg, wholegrains, sensible quantities of protein and fat, dairy etc. You may well find your weight sorts itself out.

Firsttimehumanmumx2dogmum · 18/06/2022 14:43

@BeHappyItIsEasier unfortunately I can only do two feeds a day and the rest is formula :(

Give yourself a break. BF makes demands on the body. Be kind to yourself and eat healthy, nutritious food and avoid empty calories

One of my dc was the same! Don't sweat it. You're doing great.

You could try the No S thing maybe, but don't go hell for leather. Your body won't snap back and that's quite normal.

BeHappyItIsEasier · 18/06/2022 14:49

MIGHT not snap back I mean

Firsttimehumanmumx2dogmum · 18/06/2022 15:12

@Sliceofpi I'm actually writing this drinking a diet sprite, I didn't know that about insulin!

I think that no snacks and no desserts is not the way to go. You shouldn't stop eating when you want you to, because of the psychological side of it. If you go hungry you'll end up thinking about food all the time and that never ends well!
You'd be better off going with healthier options instead instead of normal (or more usual) ones. More jello, more yoghurt, less crisps, less cookies. If you want cookies, make your own. You want cake bake your own, walk to Tesco to get what you need and walk back.
Try to eat smaller portions of things you shouldn't be eating, instead of not eating at all.
Fruit should be eaten before the main course or for snacks, not as dessert.
The weather isn't great for it but eating soup for dinner instead of a regular dish helps too. I cheat here, in most diets you're not supposed to add potato, but I love the way it tastes, so I rather add 1 than not eat soup at all. Eating a massive bowl of soup really helps.
I have a diet I was prescribed by an professional. Do you want it? If so, I can post here.

Firsttimehumanmumx2dogmum · 18/06/2022 15:16

Everyone is very kind saying to look after myself and go easy. It's hard to explain but I'm quite excited to get back to me a little bit more. If you'd said before that I'd care at 4 weeks pp I'd say you were mad. I don't really care or have high expectations fir snapping back, im just excited to have my body back to being (mostly) all mine! Lol feeling motivated :)

That's so relatable and it's also normal to feel that. But rapid weight loss very soon pp is actually pretty bad for your body in the long run. So it isn't just fluffy niceness! There is logic behind the advice to go easy 😁

Nothing wrong with paying attention to what you're eating though and being as healthy as possible as obviously that will be good for your whole family. Healthy, happy mum, happy baby and all that.

mackthepony · 18/06/2022 15:22

Only eat 1500 cals per day

BeHappyItIsEasier · 18/06/2022 15:24

Important to give your body a break yada yada^^. Not saying go to rack and ruin and eat cake all day (well...maybe the odd day 😜), but just don't do anything extreme

Oceanus · 18/06/2022 15:56

Prescribed diet, suited to my need but that can give you some pointers.

Breakfast: Coffee (no sugar) + 1 no fat yoghurt (+/- 50 kcal) +
+either 1 bread (50g) w/ slice no fat cheese or 1 slice ham
+or (1fruit (120/150g) + 30 g oat)

Mid-morning:
1 fruit + 1 non fat Skyr red fruits (from Lidl, pouch one) + 1 toast or 1 cracker
OR
2 tortillas

Lunch: veggetable soup (no knorr; add olive oil when it's done)

  • 1 small potato or 1 handfull of rice or 1,5 hands of veggies
  • (meat/fish or 2 eggs) OR half plate of veggies
  • 1 fruit

Afternoon: tea + 1 bread w/ 1 slice cheese
OR
1 juice (100% fruit) OR hiperproteic yoghurt (whey) OR KVARG (0% sugar)

  • 1 bread w/ ham OR 1 toast OR 1 cracker

Dinner: Soup + dish like lunch (no pasta, no rice, no potato) + 1 fruit

Supper (option 1): Light jello (homemade) + fruit
OR
no fat yoghurt w/ jello OR
oats (150 mL milk + 30g oats+ 1 lemon peal + cinammon

Supper (option 2): 2 units of oats pancakes

Recipe for 4 oats pancakes: 30g oats (the crunchy kind) +1 banana+ 1 egg+ cinnamon

** I deleted most units because I don't think it's healthy to go around weighing food. Also removed some options because wouldn't make sense there.

**Look for whey yoghurts

** You can have a bottle with water and add apple juice concentrate to it. Opt for apple juice.

**Fruit: melon, watermelon, apples, orange, all berries. Go easy on: grapes, figs, bananas. Opt for fruit in season.
