One week at weightwatchers and I've put on half a pound!

I just don't get it. I must be eating about a quarter of what I usually eat, I have walked everywhere instead of driving. Not a single biscuit, crisp or chocolate has passed my lips.

Gutted, feel like giving it up and going back to my large portions.

time of the month? can be a 3 or 4 pound difference?

don't give up. sometimes you get a 'diet lag' and it will catch up with you next week and you will get good losses. keep up the good work.

If you are exercising more, you may be gaining muscle (which weighs more than fat). Give it a few weeks and you'll probably see a gradual loss. It is much healthier than losing lots all at once (though not as satisfying!)

sandyballs · 14/01/2008 13:27

Thanks for replies. I love the idea that I'm gaining muscle, but I don't think that is the case. I've only been walking, not working out at the gym.

My jeans felt looser yesterday. So demoralising to find I've gained weight

Time of the month isn't an issue I don't think. I'm half way through my cycle.

Clothes feeling looser is a much better indicator of losing weight than the scales . So you're probably doing really well!

Thank you, you're very kind .

I wonder if I'm working out the points correctly. It is a bit of a faff isn't it.

MatildasMummy is right about the weight loss/gain lag but if you stick with it you should see a good loss next week. I know quite often people have a bit of a binge before starting a diet or new eating plan so if that's what you did then the extra half a lb could be that catching up with you (again it's the diet lag devil at play).

Also, did you wear the same clothes for your second weigh in as you did at the first? You should try to as your clothes make such a difference. Jeans can add an extra lb or more!

Good luck and let us know how you get on at the next meeting.

I did go a bit mad a few days before joining WW, so maybe that is what it is. I was surprised I wasn't heavier at the first weigh-in.

Thanks for replies.

Sandyballs - Please, please, take your measurements. Everywhere!! Waist, thighs, bust, upper arms, calves. You name it I measured it, after being exactly where you are now. I gained weight two weeks running after following the programme to the point. Exercised loads, and got so despondent. However, leader told me to take my measurements and was amazed I had actually reduced in inches! It just didn't show at the scales. Good Luck.

sandyballs · 14/01/2008 16:52

That's a good idea Fimbles. So at what point did the scales start showing the weight loss?

The week after I lost 5lbs. I swear by weightwatchers and have always used it to lose weight. Unfortunately, I have a habit of putting it all back on. But I always ensure I measure myself now and keep a tally as I go along. At least that way even if I don't see the weight loss, if I know I have been good, then hopefully I will see it in the measurements. Hang in there, positive results will show soon.

NiftyNanny · 14/01/2008 21:23

IME there is about a week lag - so fingers crossed for next weigh in!

sandyballs · 21/01/2008 15:13

Lost 3 pounds this week. Although I think I ate more than last week. Confusing this dieting!
