Why does everyone rave about MFP

I always see everyone rave about my fitness pal. I have used it before and didn't rate it but thought I would give it another go and remembered why I really didn't like it.

Had an apple for breakfast. Want to put in 119g of apple so I know how much exactly I'm eating but I can't do this. It's all medium small large of whatever apple. All the mediums different calories so actually have no idea exactly of my calories.

Went to do a recipe for tonight but can't seem to put in exact amounts and have to do 1/2 serves and 3/4 of things that are already there.

Please tell me I'm doing something wrong cause I've only been signed up again for half an hour and already want to delete it.

Any other suggestions for calorie tracking apps?

Try Nutracheck. Its not free but it's much better.

Trying to add butter to a recipe now but can't just type in butter and add 50g all measurements are tablespoons, fluid ounce, cups etc. I just want it to be simple and choose how many grams it is not have to try and work out what it is in another measurement.

If you click serving size you should be able to change "1 medium" (for example) to 1g, and then in the box below "Number of servings" put 119

I’m not keen either OP, I did Noom which was great and tried to move over but the serving sizes are really odd. I just want to do it in cups.

You need to change the units under 'serving size'. There's normally a 1g option for most foods. So you'd put in 119 servings of 1g

MFPs strength is its database of common foods from UK supermarkets. For cooking from scratch it's a faff so enter a recipe the first time, but once you've saved that recipe, it's really easy to add it to your food diary the next time. So you do have to spend a while looking up and adding all your usual foods but after that it gets a lot better.

I find this annoying on MFP too. You can scan the barcodes of the food which will sometimes bring up an entry that can be amended to the correct weight. You can also add your own food so with some fruit I eat a lot I have looked up the generic nutritional information per 100g, added my own food entry and just weigh and use that. I do that with recipes I batch cook a lot too, so then I just need to weigh my portion out once I’ve added the entry the first time. It’s a bit time consuming but once you’ve done it the first time it’s a lot easier. A few years ago I lost 4 stone just tracking with MFP.
