Anyone lost weight but didn't look as good as they thought?

Anyone also had this where they've lost weight, felt good but then saw photos and realised they weren't as slim as they thought? Making me feel I need to lose more weight which is disappointing.

Yes but then I also looked at photos of me when I was younger and thought I was too fat and looked amazing. So I think it’s a large part to do with my own warped self view. I’ve come to the conclusion that my weight it’s not where I should put my self esteem.

Yes me. I think I will always look big due to broad shoulders and being short. I somehow thought I would be transformed into a tall, petite person when I lost weight:

Build means even if you are very thin, you won't look petite. I have broad shoulders and quite a squat body shape. Even when I was thin, thin not slim, I did not look petite.

The diet needed to lose the extra weight would need to be strict. I'm going to give it a go but I wonder if a mum body is doomed unless you're willing to do celebrity levels of diet and exercise. I feel torn between wanting to look thinner and not wanting to totally deprive myself.

Weight training? That can change your shape and make you a lot more toned. 1

That sounds good. Can it be done at home?

Weight training helps with toning. It does not change your skeletal body shape.

Scottishflower65 · 05/06/2022 12:32

Yes agree won’t change skeleton but can change to different looks eg bigger shoulders and bum makes an hourglass which may make your overall “look” more pleasing to yourself. Or just general toning with smaller weights would make you look overall slimmer. The OP does not mention any particular build issues. OP - you could do at home for smaller weights / squats etc but need a gym for bigger weights, not least to make sure you have the correct form. I have a petite frame and just thinner doesn’t work for me unless toned. I can carry more weight than when I was thinner but it’s more muscle so looks better imho iyswim.

I think there's something in that @Scottishflower65 - I was surprised to still look so flabby in photos (arms, stomach and also face though can't train that) despite feeling much slimmer. Though think sadly it's also a case of I look better but not good IYSWIM Blush
