Constantly hungry

MamanCherry · 04/06/2022 15:55

Need to lose at least 3st. I feel hungry nearly all the time.
How can I lose weight if I feel like I can't stop eating?
I'm not diabetic, HBA1C is 32, recently had routine blood tests. I do have high cholesterol.
Any tips or suggestions? Open to all ideas but won't do Keto.

No need to do keto but do try logging your food on My Fitness Pal so you can see where you can make switches for something more filling. You need to up protein as that helps you feel fuller for longer.

I did lose 3+stone logging on my fitness Pal sticking to around 1,500 calories a day on average (sometimes 1,300-sometimes 1,600) & it has helped me make better choices overall for things that are lower calorie and filling rather than high calories and will leave me hungry still.

what type of things are you eating at the moment? Maybe if you post a snapshot someone could suggest alternatives/additions to help you feel fuller.

It’s difficult to say without knowing what a typical day looks like, but as well as the protein suggestion above, having fewer simple carbohydrates (sugar, white flour etc) and more fibre should help you feel fuller for longer.

If you are hungry up your protein, 1g per 1lb body fat

elizabethdraper · 04/06/2022 17:05

And drink lots of water

mommybear1 · 04/06/2022 17:37

Water- it sounds like (not a doctor btw) your brain maybe confusing your hunger signals. Often your body needs hydration and you maybe mistaking that for hunger if you are genuinely hungry all the time I would go back to the gp.

I tend to have a pint of water first thing and then a pint of water whenever I feel hungry I give it 20 minutes then before I eat to make sure I am actually hungry. Also agree with pp use My Fitness Pal to log everything.

Thanks everyone.
Having read the replies I think my current food choices are at fault. I'm eating a lot of processed food and simple carbs, especially bread. Definitely not eating enough protein.
Not sure where to start to improve!

Start by ditching the processed foods. They are high in calories, fats and simple carbs which just trigger you to crave more.

reduce the bread and change it to wholemeal. White bread is again a simple carb, you end up craving more simple carbs. Bread is around 100 calories for a slice of 50/50. If you are eating 2 slices at breakfast and another 2 at lunch that is already around 400 unfulfilling calories before you add any topping/filling.

This guy is very good.
this is what 300 calories looks like, the last bit with the chicken breast-good lean protein, that grilled with a small potato (100g not one of those ginormous baking potatoes they sell nowadays) baked then topped with half a can of beans -you’d be stuffed full of protein

he’s recently posted about forgotten protein sources

snacks -choose smarter and have bigger snacks for less calories & feel less hungry. Just don’t eat all the snacks every day but some good examples.

it really would be worth putting everything in My Fitness Pal so you can keep track.

I just came across this lady too. Some of her ideas might be worth a look, here’s a lunch she has meal prepped as an idea. I know, I spend far too much time on TT!

Water and protein do work

But I'm on saxenda weight loss injections (private prescription) and it just stops hunger completely. Bit worrying sometimes that I forget to eat

Over 2 stone gone now since end of March. Can't believe my hunger has gone.
