I’m doing low-carb, but still drinking and maybe drinking is the answer, give up the glass of wine et cetera but I want this diet to work and not just to be one of the general abstinence. Anybody got any tips on, apart from giving up the booze, how to kickstart it again?

Are you doing any exercise, OP? I've hit a similar plateau and in my experience, you need a little something to "jump start" your weight loss again. A week where you do 2-3 short but high intensity workouts, reducing sugar/alcohol, etc.

You're right in that you shouldn't have to give up alcohol entirely, but can you reduce for a couple of weeks and up your activity? What are you drinking? If it's wine/beer, can you swap out for low cal alternatives? Gin and tonic? Vodka and soda?

Thanks mate, that’s all good advice I do exercise twice a week, but maybe I could increase that. I have an Apple Watch so I have pretty strict targets on that

You need to take in fewer calories. I’d cut the booze out

Thing is, I have done that before you drop lots of weight and their normal life resumes and you put it back on again so I’m trying to get that kind of reality weight. I’m 10 7 so that’s ok for 5’ 7

How long have you been trying to lose weight for altogether?

Weightloss isn’t linear and it is totally normal for it to slow down or even stall from time to time. I’m sure it’s frustrating, but the scales not moving for two weeks doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to do anything drastic at all, especially if you’ve been losing at a steady rate doing exactly the same thing in the weeks that preceded your weightloss stalling.

Like I said I know it’s frustrating, but I wouldn’t worry too much about it if it’s only been two weeks. On a positive note, I find that when my weight stalls, it also means that if I can eat pretty much whatever I want without gaining anything. So I wouldn’t cut anything, but actually do the opposite and give myself a break for a few days, or even a week…

This is really interesting, many thanks everybody. I thought I might go back to carbs so tempting

I'd consider having a week off. I think the body somehow learns to go without, and needs a reset.

Or maybe eat a different 'controlled' diet. Go veggie or something. Whatever tells your body it's ok.

10 7 and 5ft 7 is in the healthy range. Might that be your 'natural' weight? How much have you lost so far?

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 01/06/2022 16:31

Weight loss isn’t linear, looking back through my diary last year I went 2/3 weeks sometimes staying at the same weight, but over a 6 month period lost 2 stone. Those weeks mean little in the long run.

Try to enjoy the journey, if it’s something you want to be consistent with.
