16 8 fasting

Who does it and how does it work?
I follow slimming world for meals but I'm falling into a binge trap of over eating at night time so I'm wanting to do the 8 hours eat and 16 hours fast to IMO lime to some discipline?
Today was day 1. I started eating at 11, stopped before 7. But just realised I can't even have a cup of tea! Can I have a Coke Zero or zero sugar fizzy drink?
Am I supposed to reduce my food in the 8 hours or not?
Has anyone been successful on this?

I do it and lost a stone and am maintaining easily. I’m not religious about it and it still worked. For example I’ll still have a couple of strong teas or a coffee (so dash of milk) before I eat at lunch time. If you’re too prescriptive you won’t stick to it. Good luck!

Also I try to eat sensibly but don’t actively try to reduce food. I just found that my appetite has decreased over time so I naturally eat less now.

@KronkeyCroc ahh thank you I was just about to say, how do you eat during the window!
I still want to stick to slimming world food/mess because it's healthy and easy...
Going out for tea tomorrow so that will be difficult but maybe the fast will counteract the extra calories 🤦🏼‍♀️

I do a version of this, but eat between 12 and 6, because it fits my work and home meals schedule; so basically just skipping breakfast. I'm not too strict: if I want to go out, I'll have snacks and a drink after 6pm, of course. In the window between 12 and 6, I have a good lunch and dinner. I was concerned about insulin resistance and used to graze on sugary snacks to get me through the working day, but now my metabolism and appetite feel much more at ease with sensible eating.

I do more like 15/ 9.

It makes such a difference to what I eat in a day. Its reset my appetite. I first eat anytime from 10.30 to noon. If I eat breakfast early, its like it breaks the seal and I am hungry again an hour later. Eating 15/9. I rarely actually feel hungry.

Like a previous poster, cI allow myself a cup of tea with a splash of milk in the morning.

I have water and black coffee during my fasting time. I used to hate black coffee - but persevered and after a couple of weeks got used to it.
Now I prefer it black and coffee with milk tastes icky!

Ahhh thanks all! I'm feeling motivated... hungry but motivated 🙊
I haven't had a cup of tea tonight, I'm going to try and stick to it 100% this week and then if I need it after this first week then I'll have it.
So do you all just eat sensibly otherwise or do you diet hard?

I generally eat between 12-8pm but will have tea and coffee with milk in my 16 hour fast window. Maybe it depends on how much weight you have to lose as to how strict you are but I need a tea in the evening and a coffee in the morning!

I also stick to 1,500 calories a day (TDEE is 2,200) and go to the gym 4-5 times a week. So I am very strict in the week but do this to allow a day at the weekend where I can have wine and crisps although I will still run or gym at the weekends too.

Do you get used to the hunger in the mornings? On my days off I aim for 15 / 9, but I am apprehensive about not eating until 11ish on my work days as I get really hungry and can't eat between 9-11 anyway, due to my work.

I did this last year - basically skipped breakfast and had a largish lunch at 12 - stopped eating at 8….lost a good bit of weight but then slipped back into bad eating habits again. I am about to start it up again and was talking to a friend who does 2-10 ….. so doesn’t feel that they have to restrict at both ends of the day and can snack in the evening without having to think (but they said that they usually don’t eat at 10pm just psychologically it’s easier to have no evening cut off)

Might take some time to build to 2pm though.

Fire, you definitely get used to it. Or more like you just stop expecting to eat until lunchtime and don't really think about it anymore. I come from a culture where breakfast is a big deal and it has always been bound up with all sorts of 'daily rhythm', comfort and routines for me, so I never thought I'd be able to give it up. But, after just a few days (of terrible hunger and hankering) I started to notice how much better I was feeling (I also drastically reduced the amount of carbs I was eating which has helped massively with 'feeling hungry'). I now do loosely 18:6 most days, but refuse to be pedantic about it; it's not like you have to maintain intermittent fasting like a permanent state of being, like ketosis. It's been the easiest weight loss journey, but most importantly, it feels great!

I'm SO shocked how quickly o adapted to this!
I've always been a person who eats a lot in the morning and I never thought I'd loose that habit but I have and I feel amazing for it! I've not done well with the eating during the 8 recently but I've had a lot of social commitments on so it's been hard but I'm ready tk throw myself into that!
So pleased I've tried this 16 8 fasting!
