Best methods to disguise a caesarian overhang

OK, read the thread on Childbirth, on caesarian overhang, to get what I'm on about. Most of us poor buggers who've had csections are left with an unsightly overhang which seems to have little to do with actual weight, and everything to do with having had your belly cut open and stitched up again. Exercise had a limited effect. Tummy tucks are too scary and too expensive. So, what are the best methods of disguise? Special knickers/tights/trousers? Should we try to yank the excess flab up and out to try to spread it around? Advice please.

Getting pregnant again...

wear a body support to 'hid' it and flatten it a bit.

This is so not what I wanted to read - looks like I'm stuck with it then. Even the NCT never warned me about this and they told us so many other dire consequences of Csections

simmo39 · 16/04/2010 22:35

So why don't the surgeons who stitch us up do a proper job of it? Posh spice who has had 3 c sections I am sure doesn't have any overhang!! Unless they airbrush it away. Bet her surgeon stitched her tummy up nice and tight. So why doesn't the NHS surgeon do the same good job? Does anyone know?
It is so disappointing to hear than my successful dieting (3 stone gone and 3 to go) will not sort out my mummy tummy! I am quite peeved about it tbh...

Urgh don't, the more sections the worse it gets from what I have seen. Mine has currently gone (hooray) but only because I am 23 weeks pg and have too much flabbo (not baby) padding it out.

I don't know - if you come up with something please let me know!

Piklates helps a bit. Unless you had one of those really unfair C-sections where they sever your muscles. In which case it has to be support knickers!

realitychick · 20/04/2010 10:00

Sorry - that was meant to say Pilates, not Piklates!

chipmonkey · 20/04/2010 11:02

magic knickers work for me, sort of.

Shaz10 · 20/04/2010 11:03

That would be great if Pikelets cured it!

BariatricObama · 20/04/2010 11:05

lots and lots of pilates but yes you do have to have some muscles left to it to work. ask for a referral to a physio. you have to do the exercises properly or else you could make it worse

2 years since my 2nd C/S and mine is still there. Pregnant again, so expecting it to get worse after this baby. Anecdotally very very few people manage to get rid of C/S overhang. Posh had a tummy tuck at the same time as C/S I believe. Not apparently very safe, but I suppose in her world looks are everything so she'd rather take the risk than have an unsightly tummy.
