Can anyone recommend a book that changed their eating /health/exercise please ?

I am overweight and desperate to change and would love some good books to help keep me on track.
Someone with a transformation story who has a sense of humour would very ideal but happy to look at anything really.
TIA

Fast 800 has completely changed my attitude to food. Its not particularly funny but lots of science is explained and I found it really easy to follow.

Why we eat (too much) by Andrew Jenkinson. Completely changed my eating habits and I lost 4 stone Smile.

There's a thread for this book in Weight Loss Chat.

Thank you , I have a feeling we have that somewhere . My dh is fit and healthy and normal weight but looked into at one point.
I really need to find some motivation from somewhere.

Thank you @Antarcticant that sounds interesting, I think that is the kind of thing I think I need. I am definitely effected by my emotions and it sounds like that looks into the psychology of eating which would be useful.

If you have an hour free, Rebel Wilson’s video of how she decided to do a Year of Health is worth a watch.

I'll second Antarcticant with that recommendation: Why We Eat Too Much. It's been the most sustainable way of eating and weight loss for me (and I've tried a lot..)

Not a book. The couch to 5k app.

Fatasbuggery · 17/04/2022 16:47

Thank you , I have downloaded the Andrew Jenkinson book and will definitely find time to watch the rebel Wilson thing.
I have done couch to 5k in the past and I know it works @PurpleDaisies but I really don't think I have the confidence to go outside and try at the moment.
I know logically noone cares but I can't get past it just now.

This: thehumanbeingdiet.com/
I won’t lie, it can be hard to begin with. However there is a fantastic and supportive Instagram community. Start with the authors Instagram.
It’s a lifestyle plan not a diet. It really has changed my life. I’m a work in progress but now I know what to do to feel better

Wingingit15 · 17/04/2022 16:58

I keep meaning to read the Beck diet solution as everyone’s raves about it

PleaseAcceptMyUsername · 17/04/2022 17:47

The Hungry Years by William Leith is definitely humourous. It's not so much a diet plan as a man's perspective on his own reasons for binge eating & any other bingeing, with societal commentary (how we are literally addicted to processed carbs, and how they act on our brain like a socially acceptable drug.
I found it very thought provoking, and it definitely caused a shift in my mindset. I would say it was the first step to me breaking my binge/purge addiction cycle, exploring why I ate, and ultimately recovering.

The Pig to Twig book (not the cookbook) by India Knight and Nerys Thomas is quite funny and v good on the psychology of weight gain/loss I thought.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 18/04/2022 23:21

I would second @RebeccaNoodles' recommendation of the India Knight book - I wasn't a fan of the diet (and not particularly of IK!) but there's a lot in there about learning to like yourself and how to make things easier when on a diet.

I love the Dietgirl book, very funny Grin the woman who wrote it had over 10 stone to lose, it's very inspiring about how she changed her life. The Dietgirl website has now been archived, sadly, but still good for a read through!
