My DS (21) has put on around 2/3 stone in the last year

He was already overweight and is now obese

he’s at uni and every time he comes home he’s looks bigger

he has a job in a cafe whilst studying and my DH thinks this might have contributed as they have free leftovers at the end of the day ,,?

I am worried for him , he’s going to the doctor next week about something unrelated, should i say to DS he should talk to the doctor about his weight gain ..?

TIA

Lots of students put weight on at uni.
Copious amounts of alcohol, cheap unhealthy food, lazy lie-ins.

If he really is that big the Dr may put him on the scales and offer him a free weight loss programme but I’m not sure you telling him to speak to the dr about his weight gain is any use, it’s unlikely to be a medical issue. All the Dr can do is speak to him about lifestyle & portion sizes really.

Could you ask if he’s looking after himself properly and ask if he’s cooking for himself? Maybe get him a healthy student cook book or Google links to healthy student meals to make whilst he’s at home that he can see will be easy to prepare when he goes back?

I think you need to try and work out how he feels about it. If it seems to be worrying him or he's unhappy about it, think long and hard about whether, and how, to broach the subject to offer help and no judgement.
He's an adult, and an intelligent adult.

Hi

Thanks for your responses
i agree that at uni he is probably eating fast food / meal deals and he’s also drinking more alcohol .

I just worry that he’s put on this extra weight so quickly … But He doesn’t seem that bothered about it , but as a mum I want to help him to be healthy …

He’s a lovely lad , works hard at his uni work and his job too

His younger brother (who is also at uni) is skinny as a rake which prob makes it feel more noticeable,,?

I was trying to get him to go to slimming world with me - but he’s not too keen which i understand …

Talk to the doctor because he's been eating too much and put some weight on? Confused

Leave him alone op. Destroying his self esteem won't help him get healthier.
