Does my life expectancy improve?

Hello All

I've lost five stones and got another four to go to get to a normal BMI.

I don't drink or smoke.

So will my life expectancy chances improve?

Will internal damage have occurred and, if so, can it be repaired through healthy living?

I'm 60

Just wanted to say well done on losing 5 stone so far! That’s a fab achievement and good luck for losing the rest.
I’m not an expert, so I don’t know about damage already done, but presumably once you’re a healthy BMI, your risk of things like type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke will be reduced. Do you know what your cholesterol and blood sugar levels are like?

Every day that you aren't carrying that 5 stone is a day that your heart isn't working too hard. It's a day that your joints aren't carrying too much weight.

So yes, your life expectancy should increase, your risk of debilitating diseases like breast cancer falls, and your mobility improves. It's all good news Smile

Well done !

Yes it does! I'm about the same place as you, lost 5 and a half, could lose another 3 if I really tried. I'm still officially obese, but am giving myself time before shifting the next lot.

The first 10% makes a really big difference.
Moving from Morbidly Obese to Obese makes a difference.

Also, being lighter makes exercise easier, and makes manoeuvring round the house easier. If I fall, or get stuck in a chair, or in the bath, it's much easier for people to help me and for me to help myself.

It's all good.

Yes.

Fat cells aren’t passive. They’re always doing something, affecting hormones. The less you have, the better. Well done to you!

Thank your all. I suddenly realised I was heading to an early death so have made a real effort and feeling the benefits.

Just hoping it wasn't too late.

Definitely not too late. You will appreciate the benefits more and more, I reckon. I certainly am.
