Losing the baby weight whilst breastfeeding

Wingingitsince2018 · 29/03/2022 22:18

I had my DD 9 weeks ago and whilst I feel like I am in the swing of having a new baby I can't stand how I look and it is really bothering me. Between 2 babies and covid lockdowns in the middle, I have really lost my former self.

I am currently BF Dd and really wish to continue this and so am wondering if anyone has any tips or recommendations on how to go about it, or is just in the same position! Realistically, I need to lose around 30kg to be a healthy weight but 15kg to get back to 'pre babies' size.

If you find out, let me know too 😫 Daughter is 21 months and I am still BFing and am still a stone off where I want to be. Lockdown didn't help and being not able to go out... I lost it so easily after my first but I was younger...

Same! I was doing 16/8 before I got pregnant but fasting isn’t safe while breastfeeding 🙈

I'm going to try SlimmingWorld. It worked well before and the idea of filling your plate with veg appeals. Definitely encourages me to make healthy choices. I think if you're breastfeeding they recommend extra dairy.

Wingingitsince2018 · 30/03/2022 08:47

@Footlooseandfree I was considering 16:8 but worried it will affect supply and slimming world could be an option @whosaidtha but I wouldn't be able to attend meetings, do you have to?

@Raindancer411 I know how you feel, I never really lost all the weight from baby 1 but wasn"t too worried as I knew another pregnancy was on the way. But now I know we are stopping at 2 I don't have any excuses!

@Wingingitsince2018 You can do an online and weight at home with slimming world. But sister said she finds it more helpful to go to meetings. She literally pops in and out to do her weigh ins.

whosaidtha · 30/03/2022 10:10

You don't have to but I find the accountability helpful. I would say that you do need an initial meeting to get all the books and info on how to follow the plan properly but after that you can go solo.

I'm in a similar position.

Baby is 20 weeks and ebf and we are going to do baby led weaning so she'll be relying on a decent supply for a while. Scared of proper dieting, fasting etc in case it affects my supply and I don't think it is recommended.

Have you read French women don't get fat? It's not really a diet but it's about identifying your own "offenders" and cutting back on them. E.g. I was eating loads of biscuits and chocolate.

Have cracked down on the snacking these last few weeks and the weight is gradually shifting, I'm about 3lbs down in the last month. Another half a stone to go. I am also taking the pram out for a daily walk. I don't think it uses many calories but I can't be tempted to snack while I'm walking.

About 3 weeks after baby no 1 I was in my pre baby clothes and at pre baby weight but its been much harder to shift this time!

MadameDragon · 30/03/2022 12:37

Wait a few months. After 4 months bfing I was 20 lb lower than my pre-pregnancy weight (healthy bmi) while eating loads.

Wingingitsince2018 · 31/03/2022 08:33

I definitely think I would find the accountability a good motivator but I just can't leave DD at the moment, I tried last weekend and she just cried the whole time I was gone 😭

@Jellycatrabbit i shall think French! I will try and be really conscious of snacking and swap for healthier alternatives and get out for more walks now the weather is getting nicer as you suggest. I guess it will just take a while! I would say I would fill up on more water but I am already drinking so much.

@MadameDragon I never got full back to pre baby weight with DS but it did just drop off other than the last couple of kg, but I feel like it had started by now and nothing seems to be going anywhere on its own.

I think age and how many babies you have had, pay a large part.

Also I read somewhere that breastfeeding your body usually holds on to some fat as a back up.
