Is it doable to lose 4st in 8 months?

I’m staring down the barrel of 45 and with childbearing, lockdown, depressing marriage and job and so on, I’m nearly double the bodyweight I used to be in my youth! I feel I’ve GOT to do something about it this year or I’ll never do it and my health and self esteem will never recover.

Fifteen years ago in my thirties I could easily lose 2lbs a week/half a stone a month on a combination of low carb and low calorie meals. Is this remotely doable in my forties? I’m around 5-6st overweight but I’d very happily settle for losing 4st. My ideal would be to manage 4st in 8 months and then try at least six months of maintaining it before any thoughts of losing any more. But I never had to shift more than one or one and a half stone before at the maximum, and this is a LOT.

Is it remotely feasible? What works? (NB through a combination of joint and immune conditions I can’t do anything more than really really light exercise, so yes to Pilates etc but no to anything cardio or similar).

Please help, wise MNers! 🙏🏽

I'm no same age as OP and similar circumstances. I'm still bf my toddler and find I have piled weight on, think it's all hormone related. Have a holiday to look forward to end of august all being well. So I need to shift a good four stone. Hoping to get out walking more with lighter evenings and cutting down on carbs x

I’m hoping @tigerbird comes back soon so we can get started :)

I managed to have a reasonable day yesterday so feel like I’ve made a start. It has only been one day though Grin

Hope all is well with @tigerbird

Hi @spidersoup: after a full 2 weeks off my eating/exercise plan due to Covid this is the first day I’m starting to feel properly well

Plan to do a more vigorous walk for exercise at lunchtime ,& if that goes well (ie not fatigued) I will add a morning workout from tomorrow

I’m not going to eat at a deficit for a couple more days, but am going to drop the junky carbs I’ve been having - just thinking through the meal plan!

@Sunshinegirl82

I'm 1 month into the Fast 800 Keto and have lost a stone (still got at least 3 to go!)

After the first week I've found it surprisingly easy. The book is on Amazon and it has a menu /meal plan to get you started. It definitely seems to be working for me.

Seriously, do give Keto a chance. I'm currently on it (day 17) and feel great. You will get fast results but in a healthy way. And the focus is defo not about exercise which sounds that it would suit you.
Ambushedbycakeinmydreams · 15/03/2022 08:12

Don't know what happened there with not. The focus is on gentle exercise and generally trying to move about more. All very doable stuff.

Hope it goes well @DespairingHomeowner! Smile

I like keto too @Ambushedbycakeinmydreams well. very low carb, as I like cows milk in my tea and I’ve tried eating/drinking with and without it and been the same in terms of weight and energy, just happier with my tea! Grin

It takes a while for a meds change to take effect (grumbling to myself…) but the forecast is quite good this week, so I’m hoping to get out in a few days for a nice walk if I can.

Thanks @spicedsoup. I’ve just started a new thread (Spring Weight loss support) if you want to hop over :)

Lubeyboobyalt · 15/03/2022 11:08

Yes I think it's doable. I'm also doing the fast 800 keto to deal with some regain that was entirely my fault (I originally lost 126lbs but regained about 28 during a terrible time between August last yr and January this yr)

I've now lost it all again plus a bit more and I'm moving on to the maintenance program now - this was from starting end of January

Don't be put off by small portions - your appetite will drop off a cliff after the first few days. It helps so much, best one I've ever done.
