What do you eat for lunch?

I’m looking for lunch ideas that don’t include bread products or a salad.
I’m so sick of sandwiches, wraps (trying to eat less bread) or salads for lunch, especially as it is so cold.

What do you eat for lunch?

Frittata, soup, jacket potato are my go to foods for a warming lunch, or leftovers.

pastabest · 20/02/2022 21:40

not a lot.

I have a 3 egg bacon and cheese omelette for breakfast fried in butter.

That pretty much sees me through until 2-3pm. If I get hungry then I have a bowl of full fat natural yoghurt with fruit and flax seeds. Then a lightish evening meal e.g a few boiled potatoes, meat/fish and lots of veg.

Soup seems the obvious answer for you though

SingaporeSlinky · 20/02/2022 21:43

Scrambled eggs, but not on toast, just cooked in a little butter and with lots of chives sprinkled on once served.

SingaporeSlinky · 20/02/2022 21:45

Or plain (live) yoghurt or Greek yoghurt with granola, flax seeds, chia seeds and strawberries or raspberries.

PoodleKaboodle · 20/02/2022 21:46

I don’t eat bread so I have yoghurt and fruit, rice pudding with flaked almonds, left over porridge that I ran out of time to eat for breakfast..

PoodleKaboodle · 20/02/2022 21:47

Oh also sometimes I have Nairns black pepper crackers with Brie and cranberry sauce.

strawberrysunrise · 20/02/2022 21:50

Rice cakes and humous or Ryvita thins with scrambled eggs.

I know you said no bread products but I do like a wholemeal pitta with humous, salad, olives and a bit of feta.

Snailhaterz2 · 21/02/2022 15:07

Home made soup! I tend to make some most weekends and freeze in single portion containers. That way I've got a variety to chose from and shove in the microwave. I then follow it up by a bit of cheese and/or a slice or two of parma ham or similar and/or an apple. Also leftovers from previous evening meals (if there are any)..

Youonlyhaveonelife · 21/02/2022 15:08

Soup and a nakd bar

cherrypiepie · 21/02/2022 15:14

Soup bought from the shop (600g tub does three meals)
One Poached egg on one slice of toast
Cheese and biscuits and slim a soup
Ham and melon

Plus cherry toms and cucumber

Plus 0% fat Greek yoghurt with blended tinned peaches

(I'll forget the samosa pakora and Bhaji I had today -least they were mini ones and not too calorific!)

I had a period where I had to send DC to school with minimal/bread free lunches. A typical week would be

Chicken noodle salad - noodles, grated carrot, shredded chicken, sweetcorn in a soy dressing with sesame seeds

Hummus or tuna dip with crudites and ryvita fingers

2 muffin sized frittata with bacon and veg in the frittata plus cherry tomatoes, olives and cucumber on the side

Veg pasta in a flask or a pasta salad

Homemade pizza made on half a gluten free pitta bread. Usually had a lot of veg and tuna on the pizza.

It was hard work though making a batch of frittata in a muffin tin and freezing them helped.

Hard boiled eggs and cheese triangles.
Mugshot.
Couscous sachet.

SingaporeSlinky · 21/02/2022 16:58

Ooh yes quiche, or egg and cheese muffins. I make a 12 muffin tin batch at a time and they last all week for kids packed lunches, and me and DH snack on them. I fry a few mushrooms, half a red onion, leftover ham, chopped tomatoes and spinach. Spread among the 12, then top with 6 eggs mixed with grated cheddar and herbs. 30 mins in the oven and delicious warm or cold.

Lightningrain · 21/02/2022 17:07

Another vote for egg and cheese muffins with whatever veg we have in.

Spanish Tortilla or frittata also good options.

Sometimes leftovers heated up in the microwave - last week I had lamb keema one day.

Eggs on toast, jacket potatoes, chilli, soups, casseroles, piece of salmon with stir fried veg.

Greatdomestic · 21/02/2022 17:52

Depends if I'm in the office or not, I'll very often just eat leftovers from the previous evening dinner.

Omelette, with Goats cheese and spinach
Baked potato or sweet potato
Couscous with salmon, prawns and olives

I also love avocado on toast, and probably have that at least once a week although you said you wanted to eat less bread. It is awesome though.

Bookaholic73 · 21/02/2022 21:43

Thank you so much for the suggestions.

I love tuna, so could do tuna, mayo & sweetcorn without bread or pasta. Obviously that’s just cold though.

Soup does sound like a great option. I think I’m going to buy some time of it and see what I think. Not really had soup lots.

I love the idea of egg & cheese muffins. I’ll give those a go this week.

I am definitely a savoury food person, I’m not keen on granola or yogurt etc. but maybe for the occasional dessert.

I’ve considered going low carb, so maybe researching those ideas is also a good idea.
