losing a stone and want some accountability

In reality it's 3 stone but a stone would make a huge difference. I'm the heaviest I've been in years, possibly ever.

Returned to exercise classes after 2 years of doing very little. And DH needs to eat differently as has IBS so together we might change our eating patterns.

soup for lunch...a big salad or lots of veg for tea. And poached egg or porridge and fruit for breakfast.

No weeknight alcohol. No post dinner cheese and crackers. No crisps.

But on the up side it's spring round the corner, the days are getting longer, salads will seem more appealing as will grilling fish on the bbq...

I'm losing weight too, 7 weeks in and 1 and a half stone down, unfortunately that is just the tip of the iceberg and I have 22 lbs more to lose to hit my 1 st big target, then (mumbles) LOTS more to hit my actual goal Grin

Just looking at your plan and it's a great start to add in more veg but just be careful you don't go too low on protein and fat. If you exclude those then you'll be HUNGRY and hungry people end up eating cakes and sweets!

Good luck and keep checking in.

I'm also trying to lose weight, a stone to my first target. I'm finding it slow but it's going in the right direction. I second the lack of protein, I don't really eat meat and hate lentils, but you can get protein from rice and some veg does have protein. Beans are a good option.

JustJam4Tea · 16/02/2022 10:31

good thoughts on the protein.

Fat too! It's important, good for your body, and filling, just choose things like:

  • full fat Greek yoghurt (sainsburys extra special range is lush)
  • full fat cottage cheese (Longley farms mmmm)
  • olive oil in salad dressing or to roast veg
  • avocado
  • coconut oil/milk in curry
  • salmon, mackerel, sardines

It sounds like you’ve made some positive changes already! I agree with the advice on making sure you get enough protein, but fibre is equally important for helping you feel fuller for longer. Some people seem to think that just eating vegetables will give them enough fibre, but that’s not quite true. Pulses and whole grains are much better sources than most vegetables.

I’ve lost 4 stone in the last year and my top tip would be to make sure you eat enough and that at least 95% of what you eat is food that’s good for you. It’s much better to eat a little bit more and have slower weightloss than to lose weight rapidly and then give up because the diet just isn’t sustainable in the long term. Think of it as a permanent lifestyle change and don’t do anything you wouldn’t be able to keep up long term. You can do this!

Hi, I'll hop on board if you don't mind? I lost almost 4st last year, and put 3st back on! Shock I started the Monday before last and have lost 6lbs so far. I will weigh every Monday. Only take measurements every month though, so they will hopefully go down a bit.
How are you planning on losing the weight? I'm roughly calorie counting. Doing 20 minutes of exercise a day (Don't take that as too virtuous, it's only gentle stretching and yoga!).
Do you want to do the 'starting weight, goal weight' etc?
Goal weight 11st
Start weight: 14st 2.4lbs
First week: 13st 10.4lb
Weight lost 6lbs.

I’m happy to join an accountability thread. I need to loose at least the 1stone of lockdown1 weight that still hasn’t shifted, then one more to get me to a healthy bmi, then ideally another 1-2 just because I want to. Started yesterday calorie counting. I have a gym membership and usually go 3x a week but haven’t been for a few weeks as I was ill, then the dc had covid so I had to isolate with them and now it’s half term. Still I’ll be back there on Monday.
Yesterday I had 1238calories, today is 1314. I’ve just brushed my teeth to discourage me from any late night snacking.

CW: 12st13lbs
GW: 9st

Evening snacking is my downfall….I find it easier in the summer as generally out and about in the evenings. Winter I hibernate.

I had a blood sugar crash last night (I'm diabetic.) and ended up eating three original Oat So Simples.Blush Hopefully haven't done too much damage weight wise.
How's everyone else doing today?

Sunshinedreaming2022 · 17/02/2022 12:40

oh gosh @73kittycat73 I hope you are okay now?
my day is so-so. started really well with a healthy smoothie, but then had crisps, 1 Lindt ball, and went to Aldi and bought sushi for lunch. We are having paella for dinner then I have my weekly dance class this evening. I just need to resist the afternoon snacks. 10am-4pm is the worst time for me snacking/grazing/continous munching.

73kittycat73 · 17/02/2022 19:06

Hi Sunshinedreaming2022, I am fine now, thank you. Smile I have a nurse coming tomorrow to take my bloods for my annual blood sugar test so will speak to her about the hypos.
I did have my actual review with the diabetic nurse last week, then today I get a letter from the GP saying they will refer me to the 'NHS Weight Management Service' if I want! lol Grin She said nothing at the time about my weight but I did tell her I was going on a diet. Maybe she just feels I need more support. Confused Never mind. I'm not cross, just find it amusing.
How did you do this afternoon with the snacks? My danger time is at night, specially when I can't sleep. I've given my mum two packets of M & M's to keep in hers (She lives next door.) for absolute emergencies but I won't disturb her at night so haven't succumbed yet. Grin This was after I got rid of all sugary things in my flat. (Nurse recommended full sugar coke for hypos. I forgot I had it last night, doh! lol)

Sunshinedreaming2022 · 17/02/2022 20:50

Really bad snacking (2 bags of crisps and 2 Lindt balls) this afternoon but I’ve logged it all into mfp and I’ve eaten 1454calories today so not too bad. I aim to keep under 1500 a day, plus an hours dancing so I’m feeling pretty good this evening.

73kittycat73 · 18/02/2022 12:59

You're doing great. Smile What type of dancing do you do? I tried belly dancing and liked it, and line dancing and my calf's killed the next day! lol

73kittycat73 · 18/02/2022 12:59

This was all years ago (Sorry, thought someone was at the door so pressed send. ).

Sunshinedreaming2022 · 18/02/2022 17:18

It’s - ahem - pole dancing. Obviously I do it more for exercise and upper strength building and not because I’m going to take my obese arse and be a stripper 😆 but it is really fun although I do come away covered in bruises each week.

Todays been a really good day, I’ve been full of energy and diet has been great although I’m currently only up to 900calories. I worry that’s too little and I’ll have to have something later if though I might now want to. Maybe a banana will do. How have you got on today?

73kittycat73 · 18/02/2022 19:34

Ooh, sounds great. I've seen pole dancing on TV and it looks really hard to do!
Good going on your day. Star I've been driving myself potty with carbs and sugar (How much am I supposed to have per meal/day etc?). Everything I eat is wrong! I eat bananas and apparently they are 12g of sugar and I'm only supposed to have 25g of sugar a day. Then like my meal yesterday, it was only 330 odd calories, but had around 50g of carbs and over 10g of which sugars. I'm so confused and don't know which one to priorities or what to eat. I'll be eating raw broccoli at this rate!
The nurse didn't turn up but I half didn't expect her to. But a call to say she wasn't coming would have been nice. Then there was my muppet of a postie leaving a letter outside IN A STORM!!! Of course there was no sign of it. It was a knitting pattern and I've had to go buy another one now. Grrr. lol Sorry for the rant! Blush Grin

73kittycat73 · 18/02/2022 19:42

Just in case it helps anyone else, I found this:
Can I eat fruit?
Yes, whole fruit is good for everyone and if you have diabetes, it’s no different. You shouldn’t avoid them because they’re sugary. Fruits do contain sugar, but it’s natural sugar. The sugar in whole fruit is different to the added sugar in things like chocolate, biscuits and cakes or other free sugar found in fruit juices and smoothies.

73kittycat73 · 20/02/2022 20:57

How's everyone doing? It's weigh in day for me tomorrow, and today has been bad. My nieces came round and I couldn't help joining in with the chocolates and biscuits...Blush lol I hope one bad day won't ruin the rest. I shall find out tomorrow morning!

73kittycat73 · 21/02/2022 19:42
