No but I could do with some tips. i had my daughter 7 weeks ago but had c-section so can't do any stomach stuff at the moment - have 8 week check tomorrow and hopefully will be signed off but will join you and wait for some tips.

pilates - fantastic. correct your posture whenever you think about it.

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 01/01/2008 22:19

Okay - posture lesson.

Feet hip width apart, tilt pelvic bone up(this should relax your knees), pull your tummy muscles in and your pelvic floor up, shoulders down and back then try to imagine a piece of string tied to the top of your head pulling you upwards (it helps if you visualise your ears going towards the ceiling)

my pilates teacher didn't recommend stomach crunches as your stomach muscles get tired and pushes out - exactly what you are trying to avoid.

Hold your tummy in when you drive your car.

Clench buttocks when you walk.

My colleagues and family have all commented in the last week about the weight I have lost (I haven't lost any due to porking out since beginning of December) All down to posture improvement.

Could you walk for 30mins a day (getting slightly out of breath)

Lots of little changes = a big difference in the way you see your body.

HTH

Well, if you're happy for little changes, may I join in? I'm not a gym person but I'm happy to try to tack my tummy in and walk for 30 minutes or longer a day.

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 01/01/2008 22:48

Fedda, I joined your club last year. Health and fitness has been on the back boiler for me for the last few months. But thank you for motivating me! In fact the only exercise class I've had is Pilates in November/De3cember and the occasional walk to work.

Okay, I can walk to and from work (33 mins each way) 2-3 times per week. DD starts nursery next week - thats probably 20 mins each way.

I am to go to Rosemary Conley classes as many times per week as I possibly can. I pay £22 per month for the privilege. Hopefully I can keep this up until the end of March at least.

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 01/01/2008 22:49

remember to clench

fedda · 01/01/2008 22:57

Well, you see, no classes for me. I don't know if what I'm doing is enough but when i try too many thoings i just give up. I need a very clever easy going plan to follow for life to keep myself in a better shape and to gradually loose weight without loosing my health which is not that good anyway.

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 01/01/2008 23:05

Fedda - you are quite right to set small goals. Can you tack a reason to the 30 minute walk? for instance - you're walking because;
you haven't got the money for the bus
or
the dog needs a good walk
or
you get a paper and a pint from the corner shop

and add it into your routine?

fedda · 01/01/2008 23:20

I have a lot of reasons to walk so it's not a problem for me to find why I need it and just do it. I don't excersise (apar from walking which is a normal speed walking unless I'm cold. Yes, I know, i could dress myself too light to be cold but I just don't like feeling the cold, I'm afraid). I was following joanna Hall no carbs after 5 diet and it was really doing the job but it was too stressful to have to avoid potatoes and rice while everyone was having them and the replacement, hovewer nice, didn't seem to be as good. I love mush and occasional roast or French fries ho made so i'm not following it anymore. I', planning to restart poridge/fruit for breakfast, soup for lunch and salads with my main meals and walk for at least 30 minutes a day. Occasionally I'll do my own disco dancing after 10 when noone can see me (my litle secret).

This sounds good - it's truly the simplest things that work well.

I've actually met Rosemary Conley. She told us that she used to roll butter, sugar and raisins together and just eat it like that to get her comfort hit. She also got to a point where she thought enough is enough and started exercising. It's good to know that she understands what we are going through.

fedda · 01/01/2008 23:58

Sounds good unless she made it up. Many people know how to make us trust them - telling us how they were like us is a trick which works every time. Anyway, i don't want to discourage you. Good luck!

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 02/01/2008 00:05

See - I know all of the above. It's all common sense. I just need a kick up the backside.

fedda · 02/01/2008 13:30

You can get it on this site for free.

nippy · 02/01/2008 16:57

So far this week - I taken the stairs instead of the lift (44 steps! 2 floors up)and walked to work once.

fedda · 05/01/2008 13:06

I must count my steps but I'm sure I don't have so many.

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 07/01/2008 23:07

And I reckon I walked about 3 miles today, 2 of them at a rapid pace. Unfortunately the roses selection tin is still being raided.

fedda · 08/01/2008 23:40

No, I don't have many steps, school runs are helping though especcially when I'm almost flying being sooo late.

silkcushion · 08/01/2008 23:45

can I suggest the yogalates dvd I bought at Tescos the other day. I had my first baby 9 weeks ago and have a serious jelly belly and am 4st overweight.

can I also nick yr ideas?

fedda · 09/01/2008 10:42

If you're interested foodwise, I found home made veg soups without stock cubes but with herbs and spices are very good. You can do different types to make them interesting - carrot in coriander; sweet potato, carrots and oniln, beetroot, cabage, carots, onion and can chopped tomatoes; chick pea, carrots, onions, 1 potato; celery, carrots, onions, tomatoes, etc.
For excersise - many of them increase the muscle and make you still not light but sweaming, walking, cicling and all gentle and long lasting in their effect. If only i was doing it all!

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 09/01/2008 19:07

silk cushion - steal all ideas except raiding the roses tin

I've walked approx 7 miles in the last 3 days, tomorrow it's 44 steps time! (Back to work tomorrow)
