Human Being Diet

Has anyone successfully followed this diet by Petronella Ravenshear? I am planning to start it next week and I’m a bit worried about how hungry I am going to be! I know it will work and I’m confident I can maintain a lower weight using the principles but the initial couple of weeks seems scary…

That look hardcore!! How did you get on for the first 4 days?

My resolve to lose weight is always fantastic - until I get hungry...

cheekychaplin · 28/01/2022 08:12

I don't think I could get past the first day on that tbh, I hope you are managing OP it looks intense.

Hi @cheekychaplin @anotherbrewplease
I am now on day 3. Day 1 was ok, luckily I like veggies! Yesterday day 2 was awful from afternoon onwards and I woke up dehydrated and so weak this morning. But after a big bowl of Greek yogurt, blueberries and coffee I am starting to feel better.
I am doing this out of sheer frustration with myself. I’ve put a lot of time and effort into researching the body and weight loss and I know it will work and I know that it’s lack of adherence that makes people fail on diets and regain weight. Long term I like the human being diet way of eating, the restricted carbs and the no snacking, I think it’s good to have periods of rest for the digestive system. And I love the idea of once or twice a week having an utter treat meal with wine and pudding etc to make sure the metabolism doesn’t get too slow. Think I can maintain it but the challenge is the next 2 weeks. I’ve chosen a quiet time with nothing going on and no socials. I’m happy to report back on here how it’s going if anyone is interested!
For reference I’m about 1.5 stone overweight, 5ft 2in, and middle aged

I am interested, after I posted I went back and read some more about it and it has got me thinking. I'm weak willed and struggle but I have a huge amount to lose. For now I have cut the snacks and started to prepare better meals, i find i fail at weight loss repeatedly because it's so restrictive in comparison with my awful disordered eating. So my new approach is no snacks and better food, then I'm looking to start something that will help me lose sustainably. So a 2 step diet if you like, I just have to work out which is best for step 2.

turnaroundtouchtheground · 28/01/2022 09:01

@cheekychaplin I think that sounds perfect, make some positive changes first and once you are feeling more in control and healthier you’ll be in a better place to start something else and may increase daily activity too

Hello
For anyone interested just an update. I decided to go my own way with the human being diet and not be quite so restrictive. Instead of having no fat for 2 weeks which I don’t even agree with I went straight to adding olive oil and avocado into my diet, which now consists of some limited fruit, loads of veg, good protein and healthy fats, aside from the berries and apples no sugar. No wine but a few vodka and diet tonics at the weekend. I’m starting a weekly treat meal now to make sure the weight loss isn’t too quick and is more sustainable. I’ve lost 6cm from my waist in 1.5 weeks and I have tons more energy, sleeping better and mood is really good. I’ve got no scales so I don’t know how much weight I’ve lost but I need a belt for my jeans. I’m really enjoying it. So my advice is find what works for you and don’t be too prescriptive! You have to be able to sustain! I have quite a long way to go still but feeling lots better

Oh that's brilliant, sounds like it's really working well for you

Fourmagpies · 02/04/2022 11:51

@turnaroundtouchtheground how are getting on with HBD? Did you stick with it? I'm thinking about giving it a go. I'm menopausal and need an energy boost as well needing to lose some weight. I'm worried it'll be too restrictive.

turnaroundtouchtheground · 04/04/2022 19:50

Hi @Fourmagpies
It’s definitely too restrictive and I’ve been reading up on gut health recently so decided to make sure I’m eating legumes. I am trying to fast 12 to 14 hours overnight and keep snacking minimal, focus on a variety of veg and quality protein and healthy fats also. Recently I went off the rails as I was poorly and I couldn’t restrict my diet at all, plus then I’ve had a few socials and been drinking wine again after cutting it out. But now I’m getting back in the zone and I’m ready to focus again.
The rate of loss on hbd was very high and I also want a more gradual loss now. I’m trying to maintain a balance in my life. I’m perimenopausal and feel I am on a rollercoaster much of the time.
What kind of plan do you think you will do @Fourmagpies?

Thank you for replying @turnaroundtouchtheground. I'm more of a James Smith/Team bread type so I think I would struggle with HBD. I'm going to stick with a small calorie deficit but making better choices. I'm eating more fruit and less mindless snacking. I have the Giulia Enders Gut book but haven't read it yet so may be I should read it!

turnaroundtouchtheground · 09/04/2022 07:46

@Fourmagpies how are you getting on?
I am about to start reading The Midlife Method by Sam Rice, who I discovered through the Dr Louise Newsome menopause podcast. I do like a good book for inspiration and motivation. Hope you are enjoying the Gut book, I haven’t read that one.
