I need to sort this.
I need to stop binging on food.
I need to increase my exercise
I need to want to.

I'm scared I don't have enough willpower. I know I need to want to do it. No excuses. No giving up up at the first hurdle.

Day 1. No miracles expected. Just keep on trying...

(Sorry for the ramble. I need to tell myself this. I can do this. A stone at a time.)

I had no willpower and previous attempts I got bored and gave up.

The best thing I did (at 18 stone) was admit there's no overnight quick fix and ignored diet groups.

I had a meeting with a Personal Trainer and 8 months later I'm still going. With the PT you get the accountability, advice and for me, the push to keep going. You have the session booked so there's no excuses of 'I'm tired' for solo gym sessions.

Aubree17 · 04/01/2022 08:14

What's your plan?

Specific diet? Calorie counting?

Agree with PT .... it's a great idea.

Also maybe get a Fitbit and increase your step count/activity.

I was 17 stone this time last year and am now in the 11s, which is healthy BMI for me. You can do this, OP!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 05/01/2022 07:54

Good things about yesterday...
I did my exercise.
15000 steps throughout the day
Mostly healthy eating
Had a glass of squash in the evening when thirsty, not wine or beer (not perfect I know. But better than wine)

Bad
Gave into chocolate in the evening.

New day. Clean slate.

(Unfortunately time and money wise, PT or gym out of the question.)

OP in 2017, I was 20 stone. I got down to 16ish stone but over the next couple of years my weight bounced around between 16.5 stone and 18 stone. I started to take it seriously again last February and dropped from 18 stone to my current 13.5 stone. Hoping to drop another stone or two this year. Taking it very slowly as I want to keep it off this time.

I use Nutracheck to log my food and I bought a peloton and use it 4 or 5 times at least every week. Not for everyone, and it was very expensive but worth every penny for me as I absolutely love it and know I will keep using it going forward, helping me maintain my weightloss.

Good luck, you can do this Flowers

I have just weighed this week and am also 17 stone. I am back on SlimmingWorld as I need to change what I eat and the quantity.

I am a very private person (except on here SmileConfused) so for me the only thing that helped in the past is having a target. Last time it was a holiday with friends and I knew I couldn't cope with the embarrassed of being the biggest and being in a swimming costume in front if my friends.

This year I have another holiday booked in august and have decided that my target is to lose about 6stone before then.

I am lucky in that my husband is supportive.

Aubree17 · 08/01/2022 08:55

15000 steps is great.

You don't need a gym or PT.

Definitely recommend calorie counting as well - my fitness pal. It's easy to go over without tracking everything.

Daimari · 08/01/2022 08:57

My story may help you. I hope so, because I was 17 stone this time last year. I did get down to 11 and a half but I’ve gained a stone - I’m trying to lose it but in any case I’m trying to tell myself I am nothing like I was.

To be honest I lost weight very rapidly initially and this was a huge boost. You will look great by summer! Summer 2021 was one of the first summers for years I haven’t been miserably struggling with what to wear.

Pugroll · 08/01/2022 08:59

I lost 6 stone, if felt unachievable and after many failed attempts I found that calorie counting worked well for me. Previously I have tried to never have anything unhealthy and invariably ended up craving it even more and usually binging. I worked out my BMR and stuck to that, every day I had either a small bar of chocolate or bag of crisps and that balance worked for me because nothing was out of bounds. I found recipes that filled me up like stir fry, how to season food so meat with rice and veg was also really tasty, and started to make better decisions on foods that would keep me feeling fuller for longer for example. Its second nature now and I don't count each calorie but I know my body, and understand nutrition a bit better.

Survivingmy3yearold · 08/01/2022 09:10

I second Nutracheck, it's fab and has a much bigger UK database than Myfitnesspal. I started in June last year at 20 stone 4lbs. I got a HUAWEI fitness band which was much cheaper than a Fitbit and invested in some cookbooks which as a family have changed how we cook. I really recommend Two chubby cubs (their Facebook group is also amazing for support!) and the slimming foodie, but also have the pinch of nom books and slimming eats. They are usually available in The Works for around £8. We've been eating from the books and getting at least 10,000 steps in a day and counting calories and I've lost almost 5 stone. I still have a way to go and lost the plot a bit over Christmas (was never going to sit and nibble lettuce leaves though Grin) but have jumped straight back on track in January. If we want a sweet treat or an alcoholic drink then we have it, but make sure it's counted into our daily calories. We're much more aware of the calories in things now and tend to choose lower calorie sweet treats and drinks such as Bacardi/vodka/gin and a diet mixer or smaller fun size chocolate bars (although once I start it takes me a lot of willpower for me to stop so I try to save those for weekend treats)

Don't be too hard on yourself about giving into chocolate, you don't have to be perfect all the time, that's unsustainable. And a glass of squash is fine Smile Focus on the things that went well and think about how you want today to go. I've also discovered Joe Wicks beginners low impact workouts on YouTube which I'm starting to do once or twice a week and am planning to build up.

I think I only use my treadmill to get my moneys worth.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 10/01/2022 19:40

Scales moving in right direction, (2lbs!). I did more than 70000 steps last week (not including Monday).
Did an exercise video today, plus a walk.

Well done! I’d second the approach above. When I lose weight I calorie count to 1,250 calories a day (sometimes 1,500) but this can include a chocolate bar or a bag of crisps.
Nothing is off limits which stops the bingeing. Then my meals are veg based and packed with things like lean chicken.. very few carbs. So works out low calorie per meal. I eat lots!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/01/2022 09:41

16st9 today! Five pounds in two weeks.

Not massive, but a good start.

Well done, you are me. I need to pull myself together and make some positive changes....................it is bloody hard though!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 04/02/2022 09:10

A month in and I've lost 7.5lbs. But... I'm not eating masses of crap daily. Cut out weekday drinking. I'm exercising, and its progressed from just walking to HIIT style workouts. I'm now trying to sort my sleep.

Trying to stress over the numbers on the scales.

Thank you to everyone on this thread for sharing your stories.
I'm currently looking to lose a lot of weight and since Jan have lost around 9 lbs.
I find myself feeling like it's taking too long and falling on old habits so it's really inspirational to hear how well you have all done.
