Liquid diet, ideas please!

Hi,

After having two kids within a short space of time between the two pregnancies, I am still a size 18 a d do not feel comfortable. Running for the bus became really hard and I'm also barely 5ft so I look awful compared to size 10 that I used to be.

I would like to try out some kind of liquid milkshake diet, but nothing that is similar to Slim world or etc that you can easily find in stores. I want it to be healthy, delivery Vered to my house and obviously to work. I don't mind if it's powder based but just not full of god knows what. Gym is out of the question as I am a single mum with a toddler and a baby. I eat healthy but I feel like I need a quicker solution. Also price range is £30-£40 per month.

Thank you!

Can I recommend that you don't?
Liquid diets are a quick, short term fix. 9 times out of 10 the weight goes back on. They're expensive and just a terrible idea.

Consider calorie counting. Its far easier, it's sustainable and you can still eat what you enjoy. I use the nutracheck app.

Idontlikeworms · 26/12/2021 15:22

You are looking at a minimum of £5 a day, about £150 a month for something decent.

MzMaria · 26/12/2021 15:23

Try carnivore if you hate calorie counting. It's easy once you get started and you don't have to count calories.

It'll burn fat off you and help build back up your muscles. It's very good for deconditioned people and you can always transition back to keto if you ever feel it's too much. There are great communities on Reddit, Facebook etc. that will help you get started.

Just don't eat a load of processed meat. Sausages and deli meats are technically allowed but not very good for your health.

I do it with eggs, low fat Greek yogurt, all different types of cheeses, pork rinds, steak (when I want a treat), brisket meat, homemade jerky, short ribs - all cooked in either beef fat or butter. Lost two stone on it without ever feeling hungry. It's a blissful diet once you get on it. First three days are carb detox hell.

OP I have looked at similar for similar reasons and a similar size increase!

Tbh the product labels all look much of a muchness. I'm not seeing one brand as being worse than the others. Tbh I'm just posting from curiosity to see what you think is wrong with them.

(I'm likely to go with fasting in some way and very sadly, cutting out bread. )

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 27/12/2021 07:42

OP, I'm also thinking about a meal replacement diet. Nor for every meal, but starting with one and then moving up to two. I'm looking at Huel. It's not specifically designed to be a diet product, but it can be used that way, if, of course, you also combine it with healthy, reduced eating. Some people use it for every meal. It seems to have good reviews, but is a bit more expensive. Around £50 for 34 meals. That's still a lot less than I spend in the supermarket so I'm seriously considering it!

I know all the horror stories about meal replacement diets, but I feel like I need a short sharp shock Grin And it can be used long term.

mummyh2016 · 27/12/2021 07:49

Liquid diets aren't healthy and £40 a month isn't realistic, especially considering you want it delivered.

Pregnantt · 29/12/2021 20:51

I keep seeing stuff like keto diet but I'm not great sticking to foods and diets. I have cut out dairy recently and my friend noticed me loosing a bit of weight. I have a healthy breakfast and will try to cut out bread 😭. I'm just wondering if there is something that can fast forward the process along side a diet/ healthy eating? I'm also looking at investing in a data burning machine you can use at home? Urgh

Honestly, the key is to burn more than you eat. So watch your calories and get a bit of exercise. The weight will come off. Also change the mindset of "being on a diet", that immediately makes it harder. It's healthy and balanced living

Orangesandlemons77 · 31/12/2021 16:41

Exante or purition perhaps...

Littlewhiteballs · 31/12/2021 16:46

What about green juices? I replace my lunch with a green juice whenever I notice my clothes starting feeling tight.

Pregnantt · 31/12/2021 17:18

Hi, thank u for ur reply, have u got any recipes for green juices pls? Or nay b a link or two?

Cutting out bread and drinking every meal won't help you lose weight and keep it off. You can eat what you want in smaller amounts and won't end up with an eating disorder or health problems

itsutterlyshit · 01/01/2022 04:03

I've tried exante previously. It was torture. The headaches were unbearable and I felt horrible the whole 4weeks I did it. I don't think I could have ran around after children.
I did it as a quick fix for an event but the weight went back in pretty quickly.

I recommend using something like my fitness pal to track you calories and just be mindful of what you're eating. Drink plenty water to curb hunger eat plenty fresh veg and lean protein and you'll notice a difference fairly quickly.

Sparklfairy · 01/01/2022 04:23

I tried huel shakes a while back (not weightloss for me, but an easy nutritious meal i could bring to work as I left before I wanted breakfast). Theyre good but if you go down this route (or any other shake) I guarantee you will miss chewing and feel unsatisfied.

The huel hot and savoury though, are a game changer. Amazing flavours and made with "real" ingredients -not synthetic crap/chemicals. I'm fine making healthy dinners but first meal (I do 16:8) I always struggled and now I don't have to think about it. I have them every single day by choice even though I don't want/need to lose weight.

sashh · 01/01/2022 05:37

A friend has lost weight this way BUT, a big but, it is because he was diagnosed with diabetes and this was done through the NHS (he still had to pay for the shakes) with a dietician on the end of the call. There is also an app to log weight, mood, problems etc.

He sailed through the weeks with just shakes and diet pepsi, it is the 'reintroducing food' that has been hard (he does have issues with a lot of food).

He has an appointment next week with the dietician and is going to discuss a version of the 5:2 diet with 2 days on the shakes.

If you are going to spend money can I suggest you book an appointment with a dietician?

LadyFanny · 01/01/2022 06:54

Oh OP, please don't do this, nor any other quick-fix diet. That's such disordered eating.

If you're struggling with knowing what to eat, then consider ordering a load of Mindful Chef ready meals, Gousto boxes,
or similar. At least those are well balanced and nutritious, and will give you ideas for future meals.

MissNothing1991 · 01/01/2022 07:28

Calorie deficit. Intermittent fasting. Exercise. Losing a lot of weight in an unhealthy manner is not sustainable and it will just pile back on. 1 to 2 lb a week is a healthy goal.

And as pp said, don't waste your money on that machine. If such a thing actually worked, there would be a hell of a lot more people buying them.

HuntingoftheSnark · 01/01/2022 08:28

I have a couple of friends who have successfully lost weight on liquid diets, but one for a beach holiday and the other for her wedding. For a quick fix, so that you can (in these cases) have photographs where you do indeed look a bit slimmer, ok as a short term solution. As soon as they ate normally again, the weight went back on, but they expected that to happen.

Lots of vegetables, whole grains, chickpeas, lentils are your friends for longer term.

Hippywannabe · 01/01/2022 08:30

Come and read through our The New You Plan thread. I have lost 61lbs in 14 weeks on it. Absolutely lifechanging.
