"Thankyou, are you able to say the clinic you went to or give me any tips how to research into some please.
Was it easy enough to arrange and did you go on your own? How long did you have to stay?"

I went to Godze Hospital, Kusadasi. My surgeon was Dr Fikret Beyaz. He is wonderful.
I had stomach ultrasound, gallbladder ultrasound, cardiogram, lung function tests, blood tests and an endoscopy all included.

I contacted them through the website and my care coordinator was a lady called Peril.

I arrived on the Tuesday night at 11pm. Had my surgery Wednesday afternoon and flew home the Saturday. There were about 6 of us.
My mum went with me as she had veneers done.

Brindille · 30/12/2021 13:21

How did it go @CockapooMum? Have been sending you healing vibes.

CockapooMum · 30/12/2021 18:46

Thanks for the good wishes. The op went well and also had my gallbladder took out too which was a good job as was badly inflamed and blocked. Went down at 12.30pm and was back on the ward by 3.30pm but pretty much out of it til 7pm when I rang my girls. Just a short 2 minute convo took it out of me and basically I dozed all night and had help to get up for a wee.

Had runny weetabix this morning but could only manage 10 tiny spoonfuls then same with minestrone soup that had been liquidised for lunch. Made a mistake drinking a cup of tea too fast as got a bit excited and felt a bit nauseous after but lesson learned.

Felt more human after a shower and putting my own pjs on this morning. Have still dozed a lot but managed to walk round too and the pain is more uncomfortable than a pain really. Not what I was expecting and hope I don't jinx myself now but feeling positive tonight and glad I went thru with it.

Excited to see where I'll be this time next year with my weight loss

Brindille · 30/12/2021 19:42

So glad to hear it went well. Do keep us updated. Thanks

Wow what an excellent before and after @LiloandTwitch you must be over the moon!

@CockapooMum so glad it went well for you

vitriolaa · 31/12/2021 17:03

good to hear it went to plan @CockapooMum. are you safely back home now?

currently preoccupied about having to go back at some stage for gallbladder removal - surgeon said they're not allowed to remove prophylactically, but that it's always affected by rapid weight loss... cross that bridge when I get to it I guess.

all the best for a good recovery!

oh and HNY to everyone who's posted on these threads, I've found them so helpful Wine Flowers

Happy new year

Had a bad start to the day as started being sick between 3 and 8am this morning. Ended up having to call the 24 hour emergency number the health provider gave me and they've been fab reassuring me and phoning to check on me thru the day. Been doing a lot of sleeping in my recliner downstairs and taking tiny sips of water to try to get rehydrated. They think it's down to my stomach acids being disrupted so potentially might stay on sips of water til Monday to give my stomach a chance to heal a bit.

I'm feeling a bit better just completely wiped and not hungry at all so will see how I go but still feeling positive as I know this will pass and things will settle again.

My surgeon recommends going straight to puréed foods but maybe my stomach just isn't ready for that and I suppose everyone is different. Just listening to my body and resting but not in any pain and haven't took painkillers since last night. Haven't been sick since 8 so fingers crossed that's stopped as that bit wasn't pleasant. Any one else had similar?

Great to find this thread. I have been recommended a band as i have RA and the consultant thinks it would be safer for me. I need to lose 7 /8 stone as I have been treated with steriods. 56 years old. Obese for 4 years overweight for 19 years. I am nearly 6ft and a former athlete. I can't run or swin atm as I fall over. I recently nearly went blind so surgery is NHS. Will the wait be long?

I really wouldn't go with a band. Most places in Turkey don't even do them anymore as they are fraught with issues.

2 ladies I went with were having band to sleeve corrections. Both had serious stomach issues with very little weightloss.

Google the issues around them. I'm surprised they're even an option still tbh.

Can anyone recommend a company to go through for a gastric sleeve please? I’ve contacted get slim in Turkey - does anyone have any experience with them? Many thanks.

I have also contacted them with the intention of going over in April. I have 9 stone to lose.
TinselTottyTart · 03/01/2022 13:30

I just had the same recommendation from a family member. Also Dr Tamer A in Alexanderia. My best friend's niece has lost eight stone in 6 months since visiting the latter. Size 26- 14. Young (30) so all her life ahead of her. Very encouraging.

SuckItup22 · 03/01/2022 16:34

I went to the same place as get slim (Godze hospital) but went with the hospital directly.

I saved 500 quid by doing so. We had the same hospital care coordinators as the get slim clients, only difference is the getslim team, who I found to be extremely rude (they dealt with my mums procedure)

They also 'helped' with shopping and completely ripped off some woman who needed a suitcase. They charged her 50 quid for one. My mum went and got me one for 13 quid. They overcharge everything.

I wouldn't bother. I would go direct. My liaison guy spoke perfect English. The getslim ladies don't speak Turkish so can't even translate anyways Confused

SuckItup22 · 03/01/2022 16:35

Also it's exactly the same service. I was picked up at the airport in the same mini bus, same rooms, same package. Just get slim charge 500 quid ontop of hospital prices for their 'support'

Veeveeoxox · 03/01/2022 16:49

I went with Dr Tuna in Turkey heard Dr Tamer is good as well , Get slim have had a few deaths in the past few years so put me off .

Getslim are not medically affiliated.

They are just a group of women who help you after surgery. They are not nurses or do not perform procedures.

The Dr that had deaths was based at Ekol hospital and no longer works there.

I would recommend Dr Fikret Beyaz in Kusadasi. He is a fantastic surgeon.

MrsBungle · 03/01/2022 18:22

Thanks - really helpful info.

Thank you very much for that. I will maybe look at contacting the hospital direct.

I honestly highly recommend Turkey too for anyone not on the NHS list/not wanting to wait the list or pay the prices of Private in the UK. Having experienced both the NHS and Turkey for WLS I can honestly say the treatment in Turkey/Antalya was 10 times better. They're so thorough in their pre ops, I practically had a tour of the whole hospital visiting different specialists for my pre ops with Covid test, ECG, bloods, ultrasounds, x rays, cardiology and psychiatrist. My endoscopy was done under sedation just prior to the operation then I was wheeled straight into theatre (Endoscopy was what I dreaded most as sedation in UK I was still fully awake and aware and just an awful experience) and the follow up care was amazing, surgeon visited me several times a time in the hospital then twice at my hotel room to change dressings then messaged every day for 10 days to check in. I met my surgeon once in the UK, just prior to surgery to sign consent forms then never seen him again!
I had mine done with a less known company who I actually found through Facebook so paid a little more. A genuinely lovely couple who organise it all, life long support afterwards and all of their patients stay in the same hotel so I met some fantastic people out there - I'm actually flying out again this year for a holiday just to see them....although by that time I may want plastics depending on whether or not I have any excess skin!
I was so worried about surgery abroad before going but I can't speak more highly of my experience and wish I'd known about them sooner Smile

SuckItup22 · 03/01/2022 21:33

No worries!

Some people want the extra support but I didn't see any benefit in all honesty. Not £500 worth of benefits anyway!

Hi all

I am booked in to have a gastric bypass tomorrow and feeling anxious now. I know it's the right thing to do for me but I can't help worrying about my kids if something went wrong. I have given them all extra hugs and kisses today.

Due to be at the hospital at 7am but need to get up at 4.45 to drink I pint of water. Not that I'm sure I'm going to sleep much tonight!

See you on the other side x

Good luck tomorrow @hmb255 I had mine last Wednesday and am so happy I went thru with it. I think nerves are normal but I knew it was the only solution for me. The pain and wind pain has been much less than I was expecting and I've only taken one codeine tablet a day since Saturday. My pain is more a stitch like ache in my left side but I had my gallbladder out at the same time so I have internal stitches there too.

You'll be absolutely fine. I'm down 2 stone in just under 3 weeks including the LRD.

See you on the losers bench.

Firstly apologies for my username, seems inappropriate on this thread !
My husband is due to have gastric sleeve surgery later this month with the NHS.
I just wondered if those of you that have been through this had any advice for other halves, what can I do to make his recovery, adjustment easier? Even what not to dos are good!
He’s been waiting for this for years now, he’s epileptic which is an added complication, didn’t think it was ever going to happen and now suddenly it’s here!
Thankyou I’m advance.
