Realistically how much could I lose in 4 months

We've booked to go away mid March so I'd really love to lose some weight before then. I'm realistic in knowing I won't lose everything I need to but I'd like to lose something to make me feel a little more confident.
I can't join a gym/go swimming as there's none near me and I don't drive so it's really going to have to be healthy eating and walking. I wfh so I'm planning on going a walk on my lunch break and then again after work.
I could do online exercising but I live in an upper floor flat and I'm concerned ill sound like a baby elephant prancing around to my downstairs neighbour!

You could try something like couch to 5k in conjunction with healthy eating?
I overhauled my diet mid August and started c25k mid September. I'm down about 6kg, but I have a lot to loose. It's evened out at 1-2 lb per week. Could be faster if I was stricter with my diet but these feels manageable and I don't feel I'm depriving myself.
I also downloaded a begginers yoga app and do that every evening for 20- 30 minutes (basically as long as I get before my kids realise I've gone upstairs!)

I actually really like the idea of beginners yoga to end my day with. I'm a terrible sleeper and think something like that might help.

I would think 2-3 stone if you are consistent.

ceeveebee · 28/10/2021 20:15

I lost 2 stone between March and June this year by counting calories and doing a lot of exercise (running, online workouts and walking everywhere). Have lost nearly another stone since too but have plateaued a bit recently

ArchwizardTVampirebat · 28/10/2021 20:15

It really depends on your starting weight - the more overweight you are, the more you tend to lose at the start of a diet. As you near the healthy range for your height, the weight loss slows.

I would focus on eating and exercising as well as you can, rather than on the numbers.

I lost 10kg in just over 3 months through healthy eating (mainly portion size, proper food, drinking 2 litres of water a day & cutting the crap) and getting out for a 5km walk virtually every day. Weight loss is more about proper food than more exercise imo

I lost 3 stone (of 5 that I needed to lose) in the first 4 months with my main exercise being walking. If the weather is poor, Leslie Sansone does some decent walk at home videos on Youtube. Good luck!

mistermagpie · 28/10/2021 21:12

I lost 18lb between in about three months and didn't have a lot to lose. I stuck to a healthy diet and ran (jogged!) 3-4 times a week and tried to make sure I got 10,000 steps every day.

Intermittent fasting worked for me, the 16:8 specifically.

You've just got to find something achievable and stick to it really, if only it was as easy done as said though!

Olivegreenstrawberries · 28/10/2021 21:13

2lbs per week

AnotherMansCause · 28/10/2021 22:10

It depends on
Your starting weight
Any pre existing health conditions, restrictions etc
What kind of diet you want to follow
How much / what kind of exercise you can/want to do

You could easily lose a stone in 4 months just by changing your diet, even with no exercise, assuming you are actually overweight. For example, switching to HFLC or wholefood oil free vegan are both very effective for many people, even with zero exercise.

I went (mostly wholefood) low oil vegan a while ago. I no longer need to count calories at all & I've lost weight. I can eat loads now. I want to lose some more weight but I'm taking it slow. Zero exercise aside from walking, goodness knows what will happen if/when I feel well enough to do any.

I did try HFLC a few years ago & I was losing weight but it made me feel like crap so I stopped.

AFAIK the most effective diets are the ones where you don't feel deprived because you can eat enough nice food, & are therefore less likely to binge.

I’m doing Protein Priority Diet and I’ve lost 25lbs in the last 2 months. One woman is doing it three months and lost 60lbs!

I think no matter what you decide to do, doing it consistently and really committing to it is key but it’s totally doable with the right diet for your body.

Fellrunner85 · 28/10/2021 22:18

Depends how big you are to start with.

But, presuming you have it to lose, I would guess around 2 stone if you..

  • start c25k and get to a point where you're running 5k most days by March
  • 10,000 steps a day on top of the running
  • No alcohol, takeaways, snacks, or other "empty" calories
  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet with lots of fruit and veg
PiffleWiffleWoozle · 28/10/2021 22:20

I’ve lost about a stone ands half in a couple of months on FAST800

Plump82 · 29/10/2021 10:24

I don't really want to put my height and weight (plus I actually don't know how much I weigh!) on here but I know I won't lose everything I need to between now and March.

Im vegetarian so do eat fairly healthy, it's just all the crap I eat over and above. Plus my love of wine really needs to go!

I actually started the 16:8 fasting but what made me stop was an empty stomach giving me excruciating heart burn. I liked doing it because I don't really feel hungry until later in the day. I think ill give that a go again and I'm interested in the walk at home videos on YouTube. I'm scotland so the weather will be rubbish between now and March! But I know i need to get myself out more, even just for fresh air.
