I have a big appetite and dieting never works if I am hungry all the time. I've tried soups and salads but they don't fill me up unless I have bread with them.

Last time I lost weight successfully, I did so on a sandwich-based diet. I'd make a pile of wholewheat sandwiches, the bread scraped with a little salad cream, and ham or lean chicken or tuna inside. I'd cut them into quarters and have 4 for breakfast with a pint of tea, and then 8 for main meal with another pint, and if needed, 4 more for supper. I'd have a couple of pieces of fruit as snacks. This regime filled me up for just 1500 calories a day and I lost 3 stone on it.

However.... I have since developed an allergy to all grains.

I desperately need to lose a few stones and I just don't know how I can fill up without bread.

I've wasted a lot of money trying to make keto bread with almond or coconut flour but every attempt ended up in the bin.

I also cannot stand beans or lentils.

Any ideas as to how to fill myself up on only 1500 calories?

Thanks.

Hi, I can't tolerate gluten but bloody love bread, so I have been trying out various gluten-free breads. The best by far is the Asda own brand range (which is also the cheapest) especially the seeded brown rolls and sliced bread.

But I've also learned to eat rice or potatoes or rice noodles and just cope without the bread some days, filling them out with tuna, eggs, olives, and other proteins.

Good luck.

Would you eat a baked potato with a sandwich filling, I make egg wraps (thin pancakes), fill with ham and cheese and toast on the George foreman to reheat I also use them as a type of quesadilla.
A protein yoghurt for breakfast with fruit can be quite filling.
We often have soup but I do add meat or eggs as a side to fill up.
Chia pudding if can is also a good filler

DP bought me some arrowroot flour so I could maybe try to make myself some pancakes. Not tried it yet.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm interested in pursuing what an egg wrap is .... will google.

Yes, baked potatoes - brilliant. In fact all kinds of potatoes could well be my bread substitute.

Im going grain free except some oats. I'm going to be eating meat and fish with veg and root veg. Also I got the against all grains book there are some good recipes. Make cauliflower rice instead of actual rice. Courgette noodles in place of pasta. Almond flour crepes. I eat oat cakes If oats are OK??

we already eat completely gluten free due to Coeliac family members but do have rice with lots of stuff

We also follow the Dr Andrew Jenkinson principles of high good fat/ high good protein , low/no sugar and no bad oils or bad grains and avoid ultra processed as much as possible. Oh an NO calorie counting.

Typical breakfasts are sausages/ bacon and eggs, poached eggs, hard boiled eggs, full fat unsweetened yoghurt with fruit and flax seeds, sausages

Lunches - baked potatoes, rice salads, actual salads with meat and cheese, mackerel, boiled eggs, omelettes, left overs from evening meals, soup

Evening meals - cottage pie, meat potatoes and veg, stews, curries, lots of roasts, fish and boiled potatoes cooked in butter etc.

Even though I'm not calorie counting being quite strict about not eating sugar and gluten alone probably reduces my calories to about 1600 a day but due to the high (good) fat and high protein diet I'm eating I never feel hungry or deprived.
