Losing inches but not weight

MeePee · 21/10/2021 10:00

Hi all
I started an overhaul 5/6 weeks ago, my BMI was 34 and I am 4st over my ideal weight

I work out 3 x a week (HIIT and weights) and follow a fairly lower carb high protein diet.

I’ve lost 10lbs, this really fluctuates so I think I should stop weighing myself?

I have lost so so many inches, and that continues to drop and I look different, but my weight is the same. I know that it’s muscle building but I am wondering if the weight will drop too, or whether I need to adjust anything else. I don’t really want to be the same weight, but just made up of muscle instead of fat, so not sure if this is just early days and wait it out?

Thanks

Bit if you’re losing inches as well
What’s the problem?

Although I can’t understand how you’ve lost “so so many inches” in 5/6 week but also think your fat has been replaced with muscle

PT here 🙋🏼‍♀️ so first off, you are doing fantastic!! Well bloody done! Scales are awful, so many things can mask fat loss, water weight, food in your stomach, 💩, hormones, if you are losing inches then this is a fantastic indication that what you are doing is working! Make sure you are hitting 10k steps a day, and your nutrition is on point and you can't fail, well done!

Yeah it’s really weird. So I lost all of those 10lb in about 3 weeks flat. Then I’ve stayed same weight since then, but inches keep dropping off. I have in total lost 5 inches from waist, and hips, and stomach, then 2 or so from bust, thighs etc. So about 20 inches all over. But the same weight!

You have lost 20 inches in 5 weeks?
You think you have replaced fat with muscle in 5 weeks?

Op are you sure?

MeePee · 21/10/2021 10:10

@Butternutsqoosh

I struggle with 10k steps a day as have a desk job long hours and kids etc hence I do the classes 3 x a week so it’s specifically ear marked time. I could do more classes 😂

The diet I have got used to now I think

I am just curious about weight/fat/muscle and how it all works. I am pretty new to it all!

@Reallyimeanreally2022

I honestly am quite shocked about this myself but it was a very specific diet and exercise almost like a boot camp. I am sure a lot of it was water. I have measured many times, not just a couple of times in 6 weeks. I was told to measure before I started

2 from bust
2 from each thigh
2 from each calf
5 from waist
5 from abdo
4 from hips

I didn’t do arms or shoulders

10lb in weight and I dropped a dress size

I was super bloated. No carbs helped that too

You tend to have excellerated weight loss at the start. A good way to "jump start" weightloss is to shock the body so to speak (so a new workout plan gets the process going if that makes any sense?) you will then naturally hit a pleatue. As the above poster said, scales are deceiving. You tend to weigh less first thing in the morning as your body has gone through the night with no food or drink. Your weight at the end of the day will be completely different also. I would only weigh yourself once evey few weeks as they can really deter your progress, or use the scales that some gyms have (boots may have one too?) that measures visceral fat, muscle percentage etc. I don't know how accurate they are but they will allow you to track if you are increasing muscle mass and dropping fat etc. Your body will also attack muscle before it attacks fat when losing weight so having something like a BCAA or EAA will help.
MeePee · 21/10/2021 10:24

What is BCAA? Is it a supplement from when I googled it. I am a novice really!

The people I did the boot camp with all lost similar to me too. We could barely walk the first week after the classes. It is so intense! It’s all cardio and strength.

I have standard digital scales but the ones at the gym said I had increased muscle mass and dropped some body fat. it’s more I can see muscles now I couldn’t see before and the DOMS is way less intense, I can lift heavier now than when I started so must be going in the right direction also I don’t want to throw up after a class 😂

Initially it will be quite a bit of water weight lost but then you will start to lose fat, it takes a really long time to build muscle but it sounds like you're coming on really week if your strength and fitness has improved already 👍🏻

Well in 6 months I’ve lost two stone but 2 inches off bust waist 3 inches off hips and one half off thighs , I’m over the moon with this but seem to have stopped and scales will not decrease, I look completely different in the body and people I know are commenting all the time, I’m also on steriods and have been continuously for years, I would love the scales to show more of a weight loss, trouble is my consultant who I’m due to see in few months is always commenting on weight
