Help me avoid the "f*ck it all" mentality

Hello, can I have some advice and motivation tips from those who have a lot to lose and are successfully dropping the pounds? I have six stone to lose and have lost one. The first one stone took four weeks. It has been hard work but I am seeing the benefits:

  1. my clothes fit better
  2. my skin is a lot less spotty
  3. I enjoy different foods that I have introduced to my diet.

However I do think I was addicted to junk food. I loved it. But I HATED being overweight and still do and want MORE THAN ALMOST ANYTHING to be a normal weight. And I know I’ll feel a lot better and be a lot healthier when I do.

BUT it seems like SUCH A LONG SLOG TO GET THERE!!! It’s slow going and I am impatient.

Can anyone impart some words of wisdom to keep me on track pls? Right now if someone gave me some chocolate and cake I would scoff the lot, and then keep going on that mentality for weeks. I want to stay on track and am in need of help!

FiveShelties that’s amazing 🤩. Actually really inspiring. Perhaps you should write a diet book Grin. Any more details on what worked best for you? I agree about the acceptance aspect - when you you balance up the different things that make you feel good. I’m going to see how my weight is by next Summer just by making better choices. Then accept. I think it also can come with age - I’m nearly 60 and I seem to have been gaining and losing the same two stone for the last 20 years, rather pointlessly (though a few lessons I guess)

I started with six stones to lose in January, I have lost 3st of that now. What helped me was I told myself I was eating what I liked-I had previously been on ww which demonises carbs so eating normal food like pasta was a trigger to a binge. I found with this I saw food in a more normal light and stopped worrying about a roll, or a bit of pasta. SW has helped with this as it is basically cooking from scratch healthy food. I have had set backs but I have found that because I am eating good basic food overall they are easy to draw a line under.

Thanks for your messages.

I really like the phrase "the time will pass anyway" when it comes to how long I'll be needing to do this for. It is really helping, eg when I have a wobble I think "the time will pass anyway so would you rather go back to your binge eating and be over 18 stone next summer, or carry on with healthier eating and calorie counting and be 13 stone next summer?". This is really helping.

I mark six weeks today since I started.
Starting weight 18'7" trouser size 26
Current weight 17'2" trouser size 24.
Weight loss so far: 19 pounds.
