I’ve done SW before in the past, last time I did it the plan was unlimited (within reason obvs) various free food, 1/3 plate veg, one A choice, one B choice and 5-15 syns. Has anything changed since then?

I can’t abide the groups or clapping about Jean’s 1/2 pound weight loss or making a trifle out of yoghurt, but the eating plan is quite good!

I think it goes something like....

Pay lots of money
Eat small amounts of shit food for a couple of months which doesn't satiate you
Fall off the wagon because it is so unrealistic and non-satisfying
Pay more money
Eat small amounts of shit food for a couple of months which doesn't satiate you
Fall off the wagon because it is so unrealistic and non-satisfying
Lose all your motivation, and eat larger amounts of shit food
Put weight on again

And repeat

Eat low fat
Buy their branded food
Lose a wee bit of weight then put it back on again

Very helpful! Thanks Biscuit (4 syns)

I've never paid a penny to SW or gone to a meeting (I can't think of anything worse). I've only ever had small amounts to lose, but the basic principles are widely available without forking out.

It's basically super low fat/low sugar - up veg to 1/3 and 1 syn per 20 cals for anything fun. I actually like it because it allows pretty much everything and is easy to meal plan as you can have carbs which is nice. I think it's easier for people who can actually cook properly, as lots of pre-made and jarred/packet food contains hidden sugar etc.

I find it pretty easy and effective when I do it - it's about healthy eating mainly. I don't eat things they suggest like fibre bars and muller light because its grim and I wouldn't eat those things anyway. I try to avoid sweeteners too if possible.

We all (mostly) like cake and cheese and wine, but if you don't moderate you will be fat. If you want short term wins and have willpower of steel try keto. It works brilliantly but I found it REALLY hard work...

Syns depend on your starting weight, and I think there are two HEXB now. I think it has changed within the last few years because every time I see a SW thread on here I don't recognise the MN version of it at all!

DH follows SW, has lost a lot of weight and kept it off for over a year now. He does stick to the eating plan and goes to a group.

If you've done it before and it's worked for you OP, what was it that made you stop following the plan last time?

Funny because that not been my experience at all @hamstersarse

I eat more than i EVER have, and rarely feel hungry. Ive done slimming world for almost 2 years and have NEVER gained, even over Christmas and holidays. I cook most of our meals from scratch, we eat very little processed food. I have more energy than i have in years! and look younger now than i did 10 years ago. Ive also lost 6 stone.

OP its 2 A choices, but yeah everything else you recall correctly.

whosaidtha · 01/10/2021 15:55

You can have to healthy As. 1/3 veg is a good principle.

I only stopped going last time as I was going to group but then Covid happened and the (only just vaguely bearable) groups went online and I just couldn’t have that! Then i got really depressed and gained about 1.5 stone. Still depressed and dont want to go to a group, I just find them boring, but I might be less depressed if I ate better and didn’t feel so shit about myself. Thanks for all your help all!

You can eat as much as you like of food you can't eat. And hardly any food you can eat. And allowed strange treats such as ferrero rocher made from allbran. Disgusting. And the leaders are totally clueless on basic nutritional facts. And only interested in collecting your money and selling you extras. Don't bother.

That's a familiar story OP, as I said it's my DH that does SW and not me but I know that not everyone in his group did the online meetings and not everyone maintained or lost weight during lockdown - there were certainly people who put weight on. So don't feel bad about it, plenty of people have found the last year or two difficult and you're not on your own.
WetSausageRoll · 01/10/2021 16:31

I follow SW and have never bought a ready meal or made anything out of all bran!

The basic premise is planning your food around the veg, then the protein, then the starch. It changes the proportion of ingredients/food on your plate.

You'd only need to rely on their ready meals if you were incredibly short of time, imagination, or motivation.
