Seeking help from the gp

Has anyone gone to the GP for help to start a weight loss journey?

I asked for help a few years ago and got a shrug you aren't THAT fat in response. But yes, I am. I am that fat. I don't want to be anymore.

However, realistically, I'm unsure what help the GP can actually give and what I should be asking for. I am a very emotional eater after a stressful decade. The fog is now lifting, life is getting easier and I need to make a change.

Any advice welcome.

Realistically I think the AVERAGE GP is still being told about the food pyramid with six portions of carbs.

You could go to the gp but there's a good thread on here right now about CICO. It works in the short term but then you're body tries to put back on the weight. So you're better off cutting out snacking and narrowing your eating window and cutting down as much as you can on carbs.

I did keto a couple of years ago and the weight fell off but it was impossible to sustain so I'm trying to start a more Buddhist style middle path of low carbing with no snacking between meals.

If you're starving have a babybel. That's my top tip! It makes the hunger go away but provokes very little insulin response.

I'm in the same boat thought 11 stone and 5'1'' and feeling very tubby.

I know I can lose weight because I've done it before but I'm sick of putting back on twenty pounds, AGAIN

There's a little help at the 'gym / slimming club social prescription' end, and there's Bariatrics. There's very little in between. There's excruciatingly little provision for mental health treatment for binge eaters even when they are extremely affected, though eating disorder services would like to provide this (providing treatment for Anorexia and Bulimia saves huge inpatient hospital bills, where binge eaters usually don't cost anyone except themselves much).
The main reason for the lack of weight loss help though is that the evidence for most weight loss interventions (except surgery) is weak. GPs vary though, some will be great. Would you start by seeking help for your emotional problems?

I'm day two of my middle path diet.

Before when I diet I'm either all in and obsessed, or I'm just eating rings around myself.

So I'm trying to just ''just'' Grin cut out snacking, cut down on carbs and narrow my eating window. We shall see.

It sounds like just three rules but that means no biscuits, no cake, no chocolate spread! I will still have about one slice of brown soda bread per day though. Mabe the occasional bowl of bran flakes but no white bread.

I asked my diabetic nurse for help as my weight just hasn't been shifting. I got a referral to Slimming World, which really isn't me (I appreciate it may work for some).

I've got far better information from diabetic websites about controlling carb intake, and think the NHS advice is woefully behind to be honest. I make a very determined effort to walk 12k steps a day, don't snack in between and make each meal "worthy" of the calories.

To add, party of life being easier is finally getting my meds for anxiety right. A large, traumatic life event threw me and I'm finally getting my feet back under me. I'd be happy to look for therapy/ counseling but frankly what's available and who has the time/resources?

That's interesting about binge eating disorders not 'costing' much so not being a priority.
