Hi all, has anyone here followed a diet specifically focused of reducing the effects of PCOS on the body? Any recipes/resources that you would recommend?
Thanks!

Very low carb diets are brilliant for it. I reversed PCOS in a matter of months but I had to be super strict. Now I’m on a more liberal high protein plan and it’s not come back. Goodly luck!

The only thing I know is to keep it low GI so no simple carbs or sugars on their own. Lots of protein, fruit and veg. If you're going to eat cake, for example, have it with a meal rather than on its own.

Also heard that spearmint tea helps but I've not noticed any difference.

Thanks both, I'll have a look at low GI and low carb. I used to have awful cystic acne and started having spearmint tea as I heard it could help and it has made a massive difference. I've not had it for a few months now and the acne hasn't come back. Might try it again to see if it will do the same for the chin hairs that have started appearing!

Currently doing fast 800 with the aim of long term going v low carb. I don't have huge pcos symptoms and only 3 weeks in but I do notice that my blood sugar levels are more level (i.e. not getting the hanger moments like previously). In doing it to try and avoid diabetes as we're higher risk. I'm done with having kids so not too bothered about lack of periods!

Hi! I've found that for me I have to change tactics every couple of years in order to keep it working. Somehow my body adapts and brings back the PCOS symptoms after a while. Generally, I avoid packaged foods and to receive more protein and veggies than carbs. Now, on top of those, I am doing a 16 8 fasting and starting seeing some results again.

Also, try to have exercise early in the morning before breakfast for a few weeks -if it doesn't work- then try the opposite, exercising after the last meal of the day. Apparently one of the 2 should help out.

Could I ask what are the symptoms of PCOS?

hamstersarse · 29/09/2021 09:18

PCOS is an insulin issue so low carb / GI or even keto can relieve it pretty swiftly

Fasting does the same - reduces insulin in the bloodstream so a combo of low carb and fasting is definitely a good thing to try

Good luck

www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/benefits/pcos

This site Diet Doctor was set up by a doctor who uses low carb / keto to heal various health conditions

It is a really good resource and there are loads of recipes and menu plans

hamstersarse · 29/09/2021 09:26

People often get put off by the amount of saturated fat, eggs, red meat in low carb / keto diets but gradually we are seeing that the 'common knowledge' about low fat, polyunsaturated fat etc as is laid out in most 'healthy eating' plans is really really misguided

This article the other day in the Guardian sums it up

Thanks everyone. @hamstersarse that dietdoctor website looks great!
