Anyone used an exercise step / stepper for fitness and calorie burn?

My aerobic fitness is not great, and I could do with finding and using my leg muscles.

Would 'running upstairs' on a height-adjustable step give me a decent workout? Or am I being seduced by online articles carefully selected by Google to make me buy something!

I had one, as did DM. We were very enthusiastic users….. initially.

Ultimately, if you aren’t going to get your trainers on and go for a brisk 40 min walk everyday, you aren’t going to go on the stepper. Save your money & go for a walk, if it’s cold and wet do some walking at home videos on YouTube. Our steppers ended up in the charity shop, there were a couple already in there!

Walking is one of the best forms of exercise because it's cheap and accessible to most people

Increasing the amount you walk is easier than you think. You can make it a social affair by walking with a friend or joining a local walking group

Walking stimulates the cardiovascular system: the heart, lungs and circulation. It also boosts the endurance of the lower muscles, including the legs and hips.

Do a step aerobics class on YouTube if you are going to get a step - otherwise you will die of boredom just going up and down! Plenty of beginner level videos if you search

Whentheydont I'm sorry but that made me laugh out loud. I remember DH gaining and losing enthusiasm for an exercise bench just after we got married, which should be a lesson to me. Or, if I want a step, go to the local charity shop!

VanCleef good point about variety. Perhaps I need to find an at-home form of exercise with a bit more flexibility to it. I think HIIT would probably make me keel over, but not with boredom at least.

Time to pause the I-need-a-stepper thought and think about what I would actually do with it.
