Help with 'Why we eat too much'

I've read the book, and it's a route that I want to go down as I'm a typical yo-yo dieter.

I know there are various threads, but can anyone give me a list of foods we can eat?

I'm a vegetarian who doesn't eat meat, fish or eggs. So I'm struggling with what I can consume!

Obviously veg, fruit and dairy. But what about meat substitutes? Guessing they're classed as processed? And gluten free pasta? Porridge?

I'd really appreciate a guide from those already on it.

Many thanks

Meat substitutes are indeed processed. Anything that's gone through a process before it lands on the shelf is processed. We eat very healthily and I have one teenaged child who is vegetarian.

She eats as her protein....the following in various forms and with various acompanyments.

Chick peas, lentils, avocado, cheese in moderation, kidney beans and borlotti beans.

Typical meals for her are homemade vegetarian chilli or bolognaise which I make with tomatoes and organic pasata, I use lentils as the 'meat' and obviously onions and garlic/herbs and oil. I also grate in sweet potato as a thickener and do that for both chilli and bolognaise.

She'll also have avocado sliced on top of a big salad with rice or pasta.

Lots of veg...and salad...I sometimes make her a burger or falafels from scratch. There are tonnes of recipies online for those.

The rest of us only eat a bit of meat...and only chicken or kangaroo.

If we're having a roast dinner with veg and chicken, she'll just have the veg with some vegatarian gravy and later she'll probably have cheese and crackers or an avocado on toast or just with lettuce and oil.

She's a good healthy weight...on the slim side but not overly skinny.

Thanks for reply. You all sound very healthy!

But crackers are meant to be a no go according to the book?

We make our own from homemade bread in the oven...not really crackers, more like a slice of crouton! We don't eat loads of bread...just with a burger or like I say, DD has it with cheese sometimes. I don't know anything about this book you're talking about though. We just avoid processed foods.

I was thinking about this too

Want ideally to be vegetarian but really no idea on what to make since meat is ingrained as the centrepiece of the plate!

Also I really dislike bolognaise chilli type things

I think you should probably start with easy changes and see how it goes. As pp said avocado is your friend! Also cheese and yogurt. Have crackers just eat fewer of them and more cheese.

Also if you come on the main thread there are others doing this who can advise you. We also have at least one vegan!
