What’s your diet like at the moment? Do you eat a lot of snacks, big portions or lots of processed foods? Usually the things that made you put on weight are a good starting point for identifying what you need to cut down on!

Re. low carb, there’s a lot of research out there that suggests it can be very effective, but as a fellow vegetarian I’m not actually sure how low carb you can go on a vegetarian diet!

For what it’s worth, I lost 3.5 stone in 6 months, by cutting calories to a reasonable level (1700-1800 calories a day) and eating mainly, what I consider to be, healthy foods (whole grains, fruit, vegetables, pulses and a bit of dairy). My diet is relatively high in carbs, but that doesn’t appear to have hindered my weightloss much.

Good luck!

Any structured diet will help you lose weight but simple is usually good. I get good value out of myfitnesspal, which is just a convenient way of calorie counting. If you stick to it, it works really well.

Basically, you need to eat less. Put out your usual size portion and then halve it.

If your interested in cutting down carbs have a look at diet doctor. They have lots of low carb vegetarian recipes. Also lots of information about the rationale behind low carb.

I am following a calorie counting app, I don't feel like I am dieting as I am eating foods which I enjoy but in moderation. I have found lose it better and easier than my fitness pal.

Honestly I've never ever calorie counted and lost weight fine. I find it too controlling and a mind ache. All I've ever looked at is fat and sugar content. Ive lost 3 stone and just eaten normal food, but made sensible ingredient swaps and eaten in moderation. I did also cut down on the carbs but not cut them out. And the funny thing is I did no exercise other than my evening Zumba class once a week and a light brisk walk with the dog who walks like a little old man. Some weeks I didn't even go to zumba so my weight loss has been mostly based on my eating. Honestly you don't need to go to the gym almost daily, you don't have to torture yourself with exercise. I have had 2 kids aswell and I've still managed weight loss twice with barely any exercise. I'll give you an example of what ate in a day on my diet. Breakfast: 35 -40g muesli or granoli (being low fat and low sugar) with either semi skimmed milk or 4 dollops of Skyr yoghurt with 3 sprinkles of sultanas and seeds. I also had either one of those skinny crunch bars with it or a home made chocolate flapjack. Mid morning: 1 apple, 1 orange and small handful of grapes. Lunch: 2 egg omelette filled with baby spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms and 2 dairylee light triangles with salad on the side in a fat free vinaigrette dressing. Afternoon snack: 3 ryvita crackers. Dinner: just s normal dinner made with healthier ingredients and I had only 1 sensible sized portion of it with loads and loads of vegetables on the side . ( So for example 1 portion of vegetable lasagne with salad and lots of frozen mixed vegetables) pudding: another skinny crunch bar or one of my homemade choc flapjacks.

I also am vegetarian. I found slimming world really helpful for dinner inspiration. I didn't actually join though. I will also mention that I ate leftover dinners for breakfast sometimes on my diet, then I had a really small lunch on those days. It sounds funny me eating 1 small portion of lrftover lasagne for breakfast but there's clearly nothing wrong with doing that since I have lost 3 stone

Anyway hope I've been helpful and good luck xx

I'll also mention this didn't really feel like a diet so I think thats why I managed to stick to it so well. It didn't feel too restrictive at all as I ate something 6 times everyday. I've failed on other diets. I've also found my diet very easy to keep my weight loss maintained and it does allow me to eat naughtier foods now too. Maintaining the weight loss is just as hard too so bear that in mind too when considering how any diet works for you in the present and that future xx

If I needed to bulk out my afternoon snack more because I felt more peckish before dinner I'd add a loaf of smashed avocado and cherry plum tomatoes and a little bit of humous on top of my crackers.
I also found cherry plum tomatoes quite handy to nibble on if I was hungry from boredom those soft dried pitted apricots also come in handy as a sweet treat to nibble on, as long as you don't eat too many

Chloe Madely body blitz is great - even if you don’t follow religiously it gets you on the right track with food. Look for the book on Amazon. I’ve ditched my morning granola or toast in favour of her protein shake and it’s amazing. Saves me lots of time in the morning and is yummy. Small changes = big results. Plus you need to exercise every day - even if it’s just walking or a 20 minute swim.
