What is a manageable workout/ weightloss routine?

That's not overwhelming but can actually get you in shape if you keep at it?

I am looking to try to lose some weight and maintain, I don't have the biggest amount to lose I'd be happy with 1 stone and then perhaps a little bit more overtime or just toning depending on how I feel about myself.

Calorie counting worked for me for a while months ago but I always felt rather bad on it. I would like something that's sustainable in the long run rather than forever restricting and counting.

But my current focus is trying to move my body, I want to tone in general and work on my core. I used to run but despise cardio and never enjoyed it during or after. I don't really have the time to do too much workout wise maybe 30-45mins a time max otherwise I know I will eventually talk myself out of it (I am VERY good at that).

Could anyone give suggestions of what works or has worked for them and suggest any routines? I would love to get some ideas and starting points.

Running worked for me, I’d stopped and started a few times but then it worked and I’ve lost 2.5 stone. I’ve also got a personal trainer I do weights and core work with which has done wonders for me, we only have an hour a week but it’s made a huge difference. I could never do it alone though, he’s always correcting my posture and the way I hold the weights so I think I’d do myself damage if I tried it without him!

Parsley1234 · 09/09/2021 19:23

@PersephoneJames do you work out on your own ? I’m following as interested

teraculum29 · 09/09/2021 19:34

try to do 10000 steps a day, or more if you can.
The recent trend in exercise suggest interval training ie 2min of normal walk followed by 2min very fast then again normal then fast.
Don't remember exact ratio but for example 15min of interval training equals 45min of just normal walking.
And with diet try reduce sugar intake (be aware of hidden one),
and when you buy food look on traffic light on them and choose foods mainly green and amber in moderation.
and watch out for "less fat", "light" , "natural" as usually those foods are not that healthy as we think they might be.

I joined team rh. Sensible calorie goal and steps and movement. Give it a look on facebook

IceLace100 · 09/09/2021 19:38

Re food, it depends where you're starting from. With only a stone to lose, your diet must be ok now?

You probably only need to cut out treats, eating out and take always. Oh and booze. Focus on eating fruit and veg. With exercise it will come off 😁

YouDoYouBoo · 09/09/2021 19:42

I'm more focused on health than weight loss, but I have been doing half an hour of exercise a day, whether it's yoga, cycling or running (ok.. jogging). I also do one session per week with a wonderful PT. Pricey but for me has been so worth it. She has me lifting weights I didn't think I would ever be able to lift!

Diet wise, I've bern awful lately! Snacks are my problem. I'm going to try not eating between meals (except raw fruit or veg in an emergency). Basically no crap / junk. Which is very sad as junk is one of my favourite food groups Wink

YouDoYouBoo · 09/09/2021 19:45

Oh yes and I'm doing Sober October...I think. May even start early!

PersephoneJames · 09/09/2021 19:56

@Parsley1234 I run on my own, using the Nike app so it feels like a trainer, and then the once a week with my personal trainer in his home gym just one to one. I bought a treadmill first until I worked up the confidence to run outdoors, and the effect of running on mental health is such that the more I run the more confidence I have to run in public. Smile

I don’t pay a gym membership as I’m still chronically self conscious about going to a gym and my trainer is £20 an hour so it’s not bank breaking and has done amazing things. I used to have a wobbly slope between bum and thing and now it’s a proper “p” shape! And when I’m really full and bloated i only look about 3 months pregnant when before I could look about 7 months pregnant - he’s given me a core!

IceLace100 · 09/09/2021 20:07

So jealous I wish I had a home gym, would be amazing!!!

dustyflipflop · 09/09/2021 21:39

@IceLace100 I barely drink and don't eat takeaways. I do however have a sweet tooth and snack on crap which I'm struggling to moderate...
I might have a lovely, healthy and filling lunch that hits the spot but 10 mins later I'm in the cupboard looking for chocolate.

A stone would put me in a good position to then work on toning to see where to take it from there.
I lost a bunch of weight last year which is now creeping back on but looking back I have no clue how I found the motivation...

He lives in a flat and it’s his spare room with a padded floor and all sorts of contraptions bolted to the walls. I really feel for his downstairs neighbours when m dropping weights Blush

@Evergibbon did you find team rh good I got fed up with the content it seemed relentless
I’m looking for a pt one day a week that seems achievable juggling going back
Into work and meal
Planning it all gets overwhelming then I do nothing

There is a lot of content but I don't follow all of it. I pick and choose. I follow some of the affiliates that do steps etc and listen to occasional bits and pieces. I dont have time for more. I follow the plan and do my steps and it works for me

lazylinguist · 11/09/2021 11:31

My current plan, which is working very well so far, is: daily 40 min fast, hilly dog walk (enough to sweat a bit), followed immediately by 15 mins yoga or weights (alternate days). Except on Saturdays, when I do Parkrun. Avoid processed food, bread and sugar as much as possible, but not religiously. No counting, no weighing, no goals, just habits.

Have a look at Emma Storey-Gordon’s Commit to 6 programme. She also podcasts at ESG Fitness.

Elzbells · 11/09/2021 14:38

I'm halfway through the EC Method. You can find it on Instagram, it's run by Chloe Madeley and Emma Storey Gordon.

It's been a complete game changer, I've done every diet ever and now I know why. I'm eating tonnes and working out and am getting in the best shape of my life at 46.
