Chicken and broccoli soup diet

I hated the cabbage soup diet, but love the Pret chicken and broccoli soup. Have recreated a version at home using quorn pieces and no rice. Do you think it would work instead of the cabbage soup to just eat that and hope the pounds come off?

I don’t know, but I like the sound of your soup, fancy sharing the recipe?!

Alternista · 23/08/2021 22:29

I mean yeah, just eating soup will do it, unless you’re stirring in double cream and using garlic baguettes as croutons 😂

Redtartanshoes · 23/08/2021 22:35

Depends on how many kcal per bowl and how many bowls.

200kcal per serving 10 bowls a day won’t result in any weight loss for example.

100kcal 3x a day would.

But then eating 1 Mars bar at 300kcal would too 🤷🏽‍♀️

Bluntness100 · 23/08/2021 22:37

Well they will but really to keep weight off you need to change your eating habits permanently

whatthelump · 23/08/2021 22:46

Soup diets definitely work.

I've done a tinned soup
Diet 2 tins per day - the weight drops fast. However it's very boring and now I can't stand soup because if doing this kind of diet.

Sort term it will work, but ultimately you will gain the weight when you start eating normally again

Graphista · 23/08/2021 22:47

You would lose weight but you'd also be malnourished!

You need nutrients from all the food groups, you'd probably become constipated too.

The healthiest and most sustainable way to lose weight is eat a variety of food but less of. Less calorie dense foods.

adeleh · 24/08/2021 00:15

Thanks all. I’m sure you’re right. I have such weak will power that I’m desperate for a quick fix. The Pret soup is 85 calories per serving, which is pretty good, I think.
I didn’t work out calories for mine, but used two tablespoons of olive oil, fried up an onion and two carrots cut into cubes, added a lot of broccoli, added a litre of chicken stock, a dash of Worcester sauce and half a pack of quorn pieces. It’s really nice!

It sounds like a nice soup but within a few days you’ll probably be sick of it and it will make you feel hungry. If you want a quick fix, look up the Fast800 diet or low carb boot camp which put you into mild ketosis and make you drop the pounds quickly but healthily.

Bluntness100 · 24/08/2021 06:48

Op, how many servings is that? There’s two hundred and fifty calories in the oil alone.

adeleh · 24/08/2021 11:26

6 servings.

I am going to be sick of it, that’s true.

Ontherebound34 · 24/08/2021 12:42

Seriously, don’t do it! Totally unsustainable and you could have so much more food and a variety of it on a low carb plan. You won’t even feel hungry and you’d be burning fat. Eat the soup too by all means (it’s pretty low carb) but have some eggs, more protein, eggs, Greek yoghurt and berries too.

Stilltalkstotrees · 24/08/2021 13:05

I make my own soups and eat them (almost) every day for lunch. But I also eat a 300 calorie breakfast, a 450 calorie dinner and 2 x 100 calorie snacks. I definitely find it easier if I plan in advance and stick to my plan. Good luck.

Bluntness100 · 24/08/2021 14:22

Then it’s prob the same calories as the pret one, but there’s onky so long you can sustain that, how many days do you think you can manage? A week? Two? Before you just can’t face any more of it?

Then as soon as you eat normally it’s coming back on again. And quickly too. It’s a total waste of time.

You’ll loose a few pounds over two weeks then gain them all back the next two weeks and more.

adeleh · 24/08/2021 15:12

Thanks for talking me down, everyone. I like the idea of Greek yoghurt and berries, so will include some of that too. Do you find you're losing weight ontherebound?

Yes definitely! My weigh in day is Saturday but as of this Saturday just gone, I had lost 11 pounds in 4 weeks and zero sweet cravings. I look lots slimmer too and lots of it has come off my waist which is great. I eat stuff like smoked salmon and eggs on a bed of spinach, halloumi with roasted green veg, bolognese with courgetti, creamy chicken curry, fried tofu with veggies and loads of other yummy things. Originally I did Fast 800 but now it’s the same principles, just more calories. Nearly all whole foods with maybe the odd bit of Parma ham as a snack. I try to aim for around 1200 a day but I’m honestly not that hungry most of the time. And once you cut out carbs, the calories don’t add up as fast, even when you’re using full-fat products.

Low carb isn’t for everyone so I advise you to do some research and read some threads about it but it’s great for me and my sugar cravings. And your soup diet would have been low carb in any event (broccoli and quorn both have low carb content).

adeleh · 24/08/2021 16:29

You're doing brilliantly ontherebound! thanks for all the great meal ideas! God - I'd be so happy to lose 11 pounds in 4 weeks!
