Lost a significant amount but waning as target approaches?

Anyone able to identify?

I started the year at around 17 stone; weigh 12 now. My target is about 9 stone 10lbs.

I just don’t have the same motivation any more. I felt so huge and uncomfortable at the start of the year and looked awful.

I think even losing one more stone would be amazing but I need motivation. Anyone want to help? Or tell me stories of getting to target to inspire me!

Hi @latesummerdays, congratulations on your amazing weight loss so far!
I am not at goal yet but had approx 4 stone to lose, with just under one stone to go now. It has taken me over a year as hormones are all over the place (I’m menopausal) but this last bit is being extra stubborn. I think the combination of the scales not reflecting my hard work and feeling more confident in the way I look now has impacted my motivation. The thing that has helped this is shifting my focus slightly. So whilst still eating a good diet, I have seriously upped my exercise. This makes me feel better in general but also means my goals are more focused on improving my fitness, increasing my run time etc. So maybe find something like that? If jogging isn’t your thing you could try weights, or maybe Pilates to increase flexibility. Losing weight takes time and focus and I think it is natural that morivation and interest would wane after time. I also think when you first start losing it is easy to be motivated about what you want to change eg feeling more comfortable/ confident in your body or getting healthier. As you get closer to your goal you can feel as though you have almost got there so this feeling of ‘running away’ from your old sense can lessen.

I know what you mean. I once had a few stone to loose and sometimes found motivation waning.
I would often spend periods of time maintaining rather than a trying to loose. I would do this usually for a month or two until I felt motivated again. Main thing is not to gain.
As pp says another way is to try and increase fitness. Taking the focus off weight and on to health also helped me.
You've done amazingly well and are obviously very committed.

I really identify! I've lost 3 stone and am 10lb away from goal but it is so hard now (admittedly it is a low goal but still). Can you take a break, even just for a week? Long term dieting really is soul destroying. It has taken me 18 months now, I've changed my whole lifestyle but it does help just to take a break every now and again.

Your weight loss is absolutely amazing! Well done! How did you do it, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm how far are you from being a healthy bmi? Because if you're there/ nearly there I think you can relax a bit and take it slowly.

Thank you @IceLace100, kudos to you too! 5 stone is amazing!

I was an emotional and binge eater and lived on junk food. I started out calorie counting, eating more veg and drinking more water. I added in pilates and walking then changed to running and weightlifting (this has made the biggest difference to my shape).

Over the last few months I've started counting macros in addition to calories. It all feels very sustainable. The weight loss is 90% down to what I eat, the exercise was more for my anxiety during the lockdowns.

I started at 13 stone and am now 10 stone ish (size 16 to a 8/10). Healthy BMI now but I'd still like to get to 9 stone (are we ever happy! Grin)

I will get there, it is just super slow but I've seen my way through stalls and plateaus and am the queen of water retention. I lose slowly anyway, I'm 18 months in so far, and I'm not in any rush. I feel better than I have in years and what started out as wanting to be skinny has slowly evolved into wanting to be as healthy and strong as I can, which can only be a good thing.
