Does it take forever to lose weight dieting only every second day?

I seem to have put on a stone and a half in the last year and a half. And my BMI was 25 to start with

I'm not very good at dieting. I tried keto for a while and I lost it all but I just went crazy on carbs and put it all back on again. I just love carbs.

I'm thinking that OMAD (one meal a day) every second day doesn't sound too hard. I could do that. I'm not hungry until about 11.00 so I could I think push that out til a very very early 'dinner' and then just be normal (normal without ruining the work of the day before) the next day.

I wonder would progress be painstakingly slow.

Anybody else unable to face washing chopping weighing going to the shops to buy rabbit food.

I think I would find it easier to be hungry for a few hours in every 48 than to revolve my whole life around a diet which I've found hard to stick with.

I need something I can stick with.

It will depend massively what you eat on the 'non-diet' days, I imagine it will be tempting to overeat on these days because you will be so hungry

It sounds very gimmicky to me and probably not something you will be able to maintain for long

I was hoping to be able to just do my normal thing, loads of coffee, a sandwich at lunch, dinner, bit of chocolate, glass of wine. I don't over eat or correction, I don't FEEL like I over eat, I don't have big portions, but if there's cake at work, I'll have a slice. If might have a bag of crisps while my dinner is in the oven. And then have a glass of wine or a beer with my dinner about 3 -4 nights a week.

So I never feel like I'm eating rings around myself. But yet here I am, shocked at the size of my gut!

It is shocking me.

I'm scared, but I'm going to weigh myself.

I don't know about that, but 5:2 can definitely work.

Thing is you will feel hungrier on the normal days as well so you will have to think about what you eat then as well.

All of that adds up though. I speak from experience. Weighing myself after covid isolation and indulgence was a wake up call. I've started 8/16 fasting and cut out cake and sweets. Alcohol is off the table for now. It's tough but I'm determined.

It will work. Especially if you don’t do more than 800 cals on your diet days. 500 cals is better. It’s alternate day fasting or ADF.

I think it'll be too easy to undo all effects on your "normal" days.
Have you tried tracking? I find noting everything down helps me stay accountable

Yes, I did this before and I found it ok, but I was in some sort of zone. I'm not in any zone right now.

What I used to do was have a few boiled eggs with cherry tomatoes and balsamic vinegar at about 15.00 and then go to bed early !

So I know what to do. It's just doing it!
But hopefully I can motivate myself. I think if I drag myself through this week and lose a pound, I'll be more motivated next week.

I'm going to start gently today with a calorie limit of 650
