Lost the weight but Constipation won’t shift

Anyone have any magic tips? I’ve lost 8 stone in the last 11 months and am nearly at target so am well chuffed. But constipation has kicked in over the last month, probably because I’m doing meal replacement which is low fibre.

The last few weeks I’ve done everything to get back to a regular poo pattern and nothing is working! On a daily basis I’ve tried:

Tonnes of water
Prune juice
All bran
Psyllium tablets and tea
Movicol - 3-4 sachets a day
Dulcolax- one tablet does nothing, two does reluctantly shift it a bit (was desperate after a week of nothing coming out)
Glycerol suppository- disaster, caused bleeding from haemorroids

What can I do? Should I just ignore and let it all build up in there? Will it come out eventually? Am so fed up of drinking gallons of water and weeing all the time.

GP has asked for a stool sample (only cos of the bleeding) and then a week later the practice rang up wondering why I hadn’t handed it in (I can’t give them one if nothings coming out!)

Don’t know what else to do….

I really suffer, always have, but I find yoga massively helps.

YouTube yoga for constipation and you will see a few movements you can do every day. I do it most nights in bed, lay down and bring right knee to tummy/chest for a few seconds, repeat with left and then do it with both. Sounds crazy but it’s one of these few things that actually works for me!

The only thing I'm not seeing on your list is movement - so that should definitely be something to try out. Go for runs to get the bowels moving.

This is more of a jokey suggestion but getting into a hot bath always kick starts my bowels lol!

Magnesium citrate works for me.

ActonSquirrel · 02/08/2021 11:39

Motilium / domperidone

It's meant to be for indigestion but works for the other thing. Prescription only though

Also having fat in your diet. A teaspoon of olive oil in warm water helps lubricate everything. Although difficult if you’re on meal replacement

Snd agree with pp physical movement.

Coffee.

@ActonSquirrel totally reading domperidone as dom perignon Grin

I’m walking more, trying to do a 4-5 mile brisk walk every evening. I was hoping it would help. Trouble is I always need a wee after an hour cos of all the water I’m drinking!

Anyone got any idea what would be happening in the bowels? I have no idea if there’s even any poo in them! Never had this before….

Coffee and a cigarette!

😄😄😄😄

Dom perignon would probably work too. Alcohol does tend to have a laxative effect 🤪

After spending nearly 30 years of my life constipated (probably only going once a week if I was lucky) I recently discovered strong coffee (at least grade 4) made in an expresso machine at home gets things moving pretty much instantly. I have a coffee every few days at home when I have to time to enjoy it. Don't want to risk a coffee everyday in case my body gets used to it and it stops working!
Strong brewed coffee in a cafetière works to a lesser extent too but I don't enjoy the flat taste so much. Good luck!

Watermelon. I had this problem too and ate lots of Watermelon once when we were having a heatwave. I had quite a lot but it's low calorie.

Also, consider balancing your gut bacteria, it might be down to this. You can get prebiotic supplements.
