Any personal trainers/fitness instructors out there who can perhaps help with a question about exercise during pregnancy?

I am not pg yet but am TTC. I am currently fitter than I have ever been (I am also heavier but that is another story) and would like to do as much as possible if I get pg to maintain my level of fitness (or at least keep it at a reasonable level).

During my last pg, I didn't do any exercise for the first 3 months as I was bleeding and then did gentle exercise in the gym (walking, cycling etc)up to 7 months - and then I slobbed!

What can a pg woman do? I currently do a couple of (very) high impact aerobics classes, a spinning class and swimming each week - can I continue with this whilst pg?

My best friend carried on going to the gym I even found her on the cross trainer at 40 weeks
When I was pregnant I was advised not to let my heart rate go over 140
Sorry I'm no fitness instructor but I beleive that if you were active before pregnancy there is no reason why you should have to stop completly
If you already do classes why not ask your instructors how they would feel about you carrying on the classes?

Thanks Whoops - I guess one of my worries is that I am very much a 'stand at the front of the class and doing everything' kinda person so if I slow down at all, people will either guess or I will end up telling them - and I am not sure I would want to do that so early on in the pg (iyswim).

Ah well, it is all hypothetical at the moment anyway

my friend worked out all the way through her pregnancy.
instead of running, she did the same time on the cross trainer, ensuring her heart rate didnt go above 140.
i think she carreid on with the classes for a good while.
i kno w somone else who was in the gym the day she went into labour

I was told to carry on as before, just with the odd precaution such as no hr over 140. I used to do a martial art but gave it up as soon as I found I was pg because of the risk of landing a kick in the wrong place, but carried on with the treadmill/bike/cross trainer pretty much to 34 weeks, plus I did a light keep fit type class. I also kept up with weight training but using lighter weights and more reps. In the final weeks I just did a lot of swimming as it was too bloody hot to do anything else.

Another thing to be careful about is stretching, the relaxin sometimes makes your joints a little too mobile, so don't push yourself too far.
