... how much did you lose for them to stop hurting? I've been this weight before but the knee ache is constant now. I'm only 36 and already find that my weight is limiting what I can do Blush

I can't properly answer your question but I read somewhere that each 1lb weight loss is the equivalent of 4lb less pressure on your knees...

Notthissticky · 04/07/2021 19:23

I read that as well. I don't see how that works, but I'll take it I guess...

I’ve read that calculation as well
I have moderate knee arthritis and had a only just over weight bin of 26
I’ve lost 20 lb and now am 22
The difference in pain is vast. It’s worth serious weight loss in my opinion

Absolutely!!! I watch the football and mentally wince every time I see someone jump because I just can't imagine doing that... I saw my neighbour who is literally twice my age bend over and pick something up and was jealous at how little effort it took her (I also have a permanently stiff/ sore back). I started logging my calories yesterday. As much as I dislike doing it, I just have to as just eating sensibly for me always works out at 3000 calories a day🤦🏼‍♀️

Keep doing what you're doing!!! I haven't ever lost more than 1-1.5 stone, it's impressive!!! Have you noticed any difference in terms of how your body feels? I was 16st at the start and have lost 9lbs so slow going and if anything the pain is more constant now.

Thanks :)

Yes I've noticed I get pins and needles less in the night (caused by laying on arms with fat body), my skin is loads better and I have more energy

lazylinguist · 04/07/2021 20:24

As well as weight loss, it might be worth doing some non-impact exercise (e.g. yoga) to strengthen your thighs, hips and glutes, as that can help support your knee joints.

Moonsick · 04/07/2021 20:30

I've gone from 17.5 to 14.5 stone and my knees and joints hurt a lot less.

I feel a lot lighter and more energetic generally, I'm size 18 rather than 26 so I can shop in a lot of shops I couldn't before. Much easier to get up and down from sofa and floor and I feel less heavy.

73kittycat73 · 04/07/2021 20:52

I've gone from 15st 1lb to 11st 5.2 lb and haven't had knee pain for months. I also used to get a bad back from standing too long, things like washing up. I no longer have that now.

MindBodyChocolate · 04/07/2021 20:55

I’ve gone from 19 stone 2 to just under 14 stone and the difference is enormous - my knees and hips don’t hurt and I feel so much lighter when walking. Walking quickly uphill is now so easy whereas before it was horrible.

I first noticed a positive difference when I got below 17 stone.

TripleSeptic · 04/07/2021 21:24

I imagine it's all a bit relative, but I was 15st after I had my DD, and I had really sore knees, hips, feet until I got to 11st. When I went beyond 11 again the pains returned. So thats my magic number. 27 bmi for me.
