I just downloaded this to try to get motivated and it’s telling me I can eat 2100 calories a day? This seems a lot?

I have technically 3.5 stone to lose to get my BMI to 25, but I have not been that weight naturally since I was about 20 (11stone) and I am very big of thighs naturally and struggle to maintain weight under 12 stone. I am 5’6. I once got down to 11 stone but I basically couldn’t eat much and had to work out constantly and felt so stressed out and miserable.

I am wondering whether I should just try to get to 12 stone and see whether I can maintain that? I would still be overweight though according to BMI?

Yes this is correct, you need calories to lose weight, but you’ll need to make sure you do the exercise to go with it. Going down to 1200 calories for example can shock the system a little more than planned so you don’t lose weight. There’s a few PTs online that explain this better than I but I’ve found it interesting! You’d be surprised how many calories you take in when you’re not counting.

Thanks!

I am counting everything I eat on MFP. I am limited by exercise (I had surgery 5 weeks ago) so I am walking at a brisk pace building up now can do 20 mins this way. I can’t lift anything at the moment. I am speaking to a physio on Wednesday so going to ask what exercise I can do now

I have lost no weight so far 🙁 I have been eating about 1500-1600 a day

Might take 3 to 4 months to start noticing, but eating this way is going to be more sustainable than trying to stick to 1200 calories or something. As you lose weight, you can refer back to the app and adjust your calories gradually. Good luck! X
