I have just read 'You Are What You eat' and I'm feeling all inspired to do it.

I already buy organic food where ever possible, and other little things. I am seriously going to give it go.... starting with a detox - although I can see the benfits of Colonic hydrotherapy, the thought of it seems scary.

in all would love to lose a stone.

Has anyone out there dong this, and feeling the benefits.

I bought the book, but was sure (a) where to buy sprouted mung beans and aduki beans (b) whether I could bring myself to eat them!!!

jamast · 04/11/2004 16:29

Hi hattiel
I recently bought 'you are what you eat' it scared me.
Don't know if you've tried it but I joined 'e-diets' and it's been great. I have loads of weight to loose (and we are talking megapounds here). Lost two stone since September, lost track for a couple of weeks, but back on it again now.

mummytummy · 04/11/2004 16:31

Well done Jamast. I have just over one stone to lose, and was thinking about using e-diet.

msann · 04/11/2004 16:38

i have just eaten a french stick....does this make me long , thin & crispy?? is that how 'you are what u eat' works??

Demented · 04/11/2004 16:38

I have the book but am not brave enough/motivated enough to do the eating plan. I loved the programme and fully agree with what she says but I'm not willing to become that healthy at the moment. I have however incorporated some of what she recommends in my diet.

Demented · 04/11/2004 16:40

LOL msann! If only I think a french stick would make you constipated, bloated and produce too much yeast in your body IIRC! Oh but they are very nice, nothing quite like a french stick, yum!!!

msann · 04/11/2004 16:41

mebbe a tomato is more my style.....plump & red...

msann · 04/11/2004 16:41

...and a little seedy....

Demented · 04/11/2004 16:44

Tomatoes, too acidic, hmmmmm beginning to remember why I decided not to follow this now.

msann · 04/11/2004 16:46

sigh..i'll have dry bread & water then.....but no doubt there a problem there too!

Demented · 04/11/2004 16:48

Yes I think there was, LOL!!!

Water was supposed to be bottled and bread wholegrain and unlevened!!!

hattiel · 04/11/2004 16:55

Oh I don't mind sprouted beans i usually put then in salads with a bit balamic vinegar and lemon - although they do look replusive. you can buy them at indepedent health shops or organic shops usually cost £1 a bag

Although the book does seem like a lot of changes - the hardest for me would be to limit alcohol and caffeine. I have tried dieting but never kept the weight off.

well done jamast!!

Ta for the 'well dones', As I said, I've still got lots & lots to go Get ready for this ... don't have apoplexy over your keyboards ... I've got about another 16 stones to lose to get to what I was when I first met DH.

jamast · 04/11/2004 17:36

Can we develop our own acronym's? Not best pleased with so-called DH at moment, BA would probably be more appropriate just now.

mummytummy · 04/11/2004 22:21

Wow Jamast, 16 stones. How much are you hoping to get down to?

jamast · 05/11/2004 09:24

Is that a sneaky way of asking how much I weigh?
Want to be around 10 stone. Anybody fell of their seats yet?

mummytummy · 05/11/2004 12:16

No, it honestly wasn't my maths was never that good!!! How long are you hoping it will take, and is there a weight that you'd think you were happy at achieving before getting to 10?

misdee · 05/11/2004 12:29

thats an excellant loss already! hope you carry on at that rate jamast. hope your dh is being supportive.

agy · 05/11/2004 13:06

\oh sod! I've just eaten a packet of chocolate buttons! Why did I do that?!

puddle · 05/11/2004 13:15

Hattiel I bought the book and have adopted some of the principles without going overboard. I have lost half a stone without trying and feel much better. My skin looks amazing. Things I am doing are:

Less wheat - so less pasta, bread etc. I'm eating other complex carbo grains instead and buying rye bread etc when possible.
Cutting out tea and coffee - I only have two or three cups a week now - drink hot water and lemon or fruit teas. Already drank 2 litres of water a day.
More salads and fruit - I was very bad at eating fruit and have really tried to eat more.
Snacking on nuts and seeds rather than biscuits etc.

Also make a point of having a stirfry for dinner twice a week, plus a meal of fish and salad.

I do lots of soups too with lentils etc so don't need to eat bread etc to feel full.

I haven't given up alchohol - think you have to be allowed one vice!

puddle · 05/11/2004 13:17

The other thing is that I NEVER feel hungry now, or get that 4.30 energy dip. I've been doing it for about three weeks.

jamast · 05/11/2004 20:57

Thanks mummytummy and misdee.
Not particularly bothered how low I get at the moment - just happy to be shrinking.
DH is pretty good and ds is even better.

ladymuck · 05/11/2004 21:45

Jamast,
I met a lady at the gym the other day who managed to reduce from 21 stone to 10 stone in 10 months (through WW and exercise). Became a WW leader for a while, and has trained as gym instructor and personal trainer. I would never have believed that she was twice the size a few years ago (and in the meantime has had 2 children).

The only slightly odd thing, was that when she showed me her "before" picture she looked happy and relaxed, and now she is mega-stressed (2 young children and now a demanding job as well!).

Well done on your recent loss, and I hope that it continues!

Has this thread 'died' or can I jump in? DH and I are both quite keen on the 'YAWYE' book - and have been trying to adapt although the changes (to do it properly) are quite drastic. In fact I wonder whether the reason that food combining 'works' for weight loss is because hardly anything convenient is not a combination of carbohydrate and protein (pies, pizza, quiche, shepherd's pie, sandwiches) so you end up with hardly anything to choose? When we tried to follow the plan faithfully I had terrible tea withdrawal (same happened on Atkins - flu-like symptoms and raging headaches) and decided the drawbacks of no tea were worse than the advantages - but I have managed to cut down to about three cups a day. I find I actually like hot water and lemon!! We have managed to sprout our own aduki beans and mung beans but you need to eat them before they go mouldy! DH has actually started to cook some of her recipes (although they're not very well written - missing instructions and ingredients!) so that's a big plus. I feel OK but not the bundle of energy she promises - I'd like to lose about a stone before Christmas but at the mo seem to be staying the same (10.10 ish)
