Struggling to lose weight??!

Hi all! Is anyone else struggling to lose weight? I’ve been dieting and exercising for the past 8 months. I joined weight watchers, I go to the gym 3 days a week and swim 2 days a week (36 laps) and I’m not losing weight at all?!

My weight bobbles between 205-210ish depending on the time of the month. I’ve had tests at the doctors to check my thyroid etc but nothing unusual there and had a check to see if I had pcos (periods are very irregular, painful and heavy) but that was all fine too!
I’m at a complete loss of what to do now, really starting to get me down. Any tips or anyone else going through this too?

Unfortunately, while exercise is great if doesn’t really make that much difference to losing weight. That’s mainly diet.

What are you eating on a typical day? Are you managing to (mostly) stick to whichever plan you’re following?

It must be frustrating. Flowers

I’m eating a lot of fish, chicken and vegetables. I only drink water and fruit smoothies. Don’t drink alcohol. I’m using recipes from the WW website and staying well within my smart points. It is extremely frustrating, just don’t know where I’m going wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️ Feeling quite discouraged :( I used to have an eating disorder and trying to set an example to my daughter of making the right choices but it’s really becoming a struggle to stick to it when I’m not seeing results!

Fruit smoothies are calories bomb, this is the first thing I would ditch.
I am not familiar with the WW point system but you have been doing it for 8 months and if it doesn’t work for you , there is no point in continuing it.
Would you describe in a bit more details what you eat in the course of the day.
All the sport you are doing is great for health, stamina and mental health but will have little impact on weightloss. It is easy to castlecrag underestimate how many calories one eats and to overestimate how many calories are consumed with exercise.

The majority of calculators which determine your BMR or TDEE are just guesses. Your daily experience can tell you of inaccurate or not. If you haven’t lost in 8 months, you are eating too many calories

I agree about the fruit smoothies - they’re pure sugar really. Probably best not to drink them.

They say you can’t outrun your fork. I don’t eat the calories I supposedly burn during exercise because I can’t see how the apps like MFP can possibly know how much it is. I do exercise for my health and focus on my diet for weight loss.

I never had any long term success with weight loss until I started intermittent fasting and drastically cut down on refined carbs and sugar. I don’t do keto or anything hardcore like that, I just cut way back compared to what I was eating before.

I would read up on anti-inflammatory diets if I were you.

Susannahmoody · 12/06/2021 02:24

Please list for us exactly what you eat on a daily basis.

Also, it's fine saying you just eat chicken, veg, fish, but what about the weekends? Are you treating yourself?

I'd drop out the smoothies and look in to an insulin resistance diet.

hamstersarse · 12/06/2021 06:54

Echo previous posts....anti inflammatory diets and stabilising insulin will be key.

Despite the diet industry claims, it’s not all about calories. It’s about the type of calories, and the timing of consumption.

Fruit smoothies are an abomination for both inflammation and insulin stabilising.

I eat broccoli soup most days, it’s quite delicious! I make it myself so I know what’s going in. I skip breakfast cause it makes me sick. I eat chicken and egg salads (in fact lately my diet has become mostly just eggs), stew. Tuna on rivita crisp things, chicken and veg. If I eat anything sweet it’s dark chocolate. That is pretty much the extent of my diet. I really hate fruit which is why I put them in smoothie form. Love veg though! I did try intermediate fasting but it led to me not eating at all again. I get a bit obsessed with the numbers. The doctors put me in touch with a dietitian but she wouldn’t help because I’ve had trouble with eating in the past. Maybe my portion sizes are too much 🤔

Sometime the devil is in the detail. I love soup, I even have them for breakfast sometimes, but some soups are quite high in calories?
What is in your broccoli soup? Just broccoli, water maybe stock or oil, cream, cheese? Do you prepare croutons? do you eat bread with it? How much do eat of it?

For weightloss, it really come down to calories. How many are you eating? Do you eat your calories back?

Hopefully we can help you get out of this plateau. So if eating so many eggs, tuna and chicken doesn't work, try something else, focus on fibre and eating a lot more of the veggie you love, as long as you are very aware that a single tablespoon of oil can be 100 calories.

So remove the smoothies, eat less animal products, increase the fibre, watch out for calories logging everything on cronometer.com (free and way superior to MFP)

3Britnee · 13/06/2021 06:25

Do you eat potatoes? If you fill your soup with it and chicken and veg always includes them it could all be down to insulin, you might be diabetic and very sensitive.

Your diet doesn't sound like you shouldn't be losing.

What does a typical day look like, - what, in what quantities at each meal and how often
