I'm so fed up with it.

Cut calories drastically and walked every day, even though I hate it and resent every bloody step. Not even half a pound off.

And look the sun is shining and I'm still in bloody joggers.

What did you cut calories to? Are you logging them accurately? Are you doing enough exercise to make your muscles begin to retain fluid?

DareIask · 17/04/2021 10:11

Down to about 1000-1200 and yes accurate. I'm walking every day.

Before I was eating pretty much what I wanted and doing very little

iloverock · 17/04/2021 10:12

Don't be disheartened. Keep going and don't give up. Maybe next week you will loose more.
Are you counting calories? It's surprisingly easy to eat way more than you think you are.

iloverock · 17/04/2021 10:13

That's way too little. Eat more but better quality foods.

DareIask · 17/04/2021 10:16

That was all lean protein, pulses, veg, fruit. Very few carbs

Honestly I think I'll just stop eating altogether.

(Please feel free to ignore me. I'm so SICK of spending my whole life on a sodding diet and just ranting )

OP I feel exactly the same but I've been on some sort of diet for years!

Perhaps have a relaxed day today and get back on it tomorrow. One week is hardly anything. Keep at it and weigh again in a month, and keep exercising and getting out of the house where possible.

growinggreyer · 17/04/2021 10:30

I can hear that you are very frustrated, and that is understandable but you are doing the right things and it will work if you give it more time. What I like to do is take lots of measurements eg bust, waist, thigh, upper arm and I find that I notice changes there before the scales. Do you have an account with My Fitness Pal? That is a great resource. You can track all your nutrients to make sure that you are getting enough protein and vitamins while you restrict your calories. Flowers Keep going, it will be worth it. Just think, by June you could be down a dress size or two.

Kanaloa · 17/04/2021 11:28

To be fair, it has only been one week. I think sometimes it can be frustrating as you say to be dieting and still having to wear joggers etc but of course you won’t be fitting into smaller clothes immediately. You just have to focus on the future and keep chipping away bit by bit, it will come off if you are eating as you say you are.

GloryLory · 17/04/2021 12:09

I totally get you but keep going! Your body needs a little time to adjust and meanwhile you need to find something you like most of the sime so it's easy to keep going.
maybe you can give Louise Parker Method a try? The recipes are nice, the workouts are really doable and she focuses on stress, good sleep and PLEASURE too - which I think you can need a bit more of :)

KihoBebiluPute · 17/04/2021 12:19

It's normal to have a "plateau" during weight loss where nothing is lost for a bit and then therea sudden drop. However, you haven't mentioned how much you weigh at the moment and there would be a big difference between the impact I would expect on someone who weighed 8st and someone who weighed 18st both following the regime you describe.

Have you got a smart watch that measures heart rate? Mine tells me how much effort I am putting in with heart rate "zones" and a gentle amble on the flat shows me burning barely any more energy than if I am sat at home, whereas a brisk march up a hill wearing weights on my ankles (I really recommend these) can burn almost as much energy as actual jogging.

Takeitonthechin · 17/04/2021 12:21

Have you measured yourself, as I have heard of people not losing weight for 3 - 4 weeks but have lost inches instead

MazekeenSmith · 17/04/2021 12:28

That is odd - if you've genuinely cut calories and increased activity you should have seen some weight loss. HOWEVER if you don't have much to lose in the first place and your TDEE is low then you may have lost 0.25-0.5 lbs which may not have shown on the scales due to water fluctuations etc.
How much do you actually weigh?

Silverfly · 17/04/2021 12:29

Is your period due? I always put on a couple of pounds in the week before my period. That might be masking any weight loss.

DareIask · 17/04/2021 12:32

I'm 13.5 stones and about 5'8". Have never been so heavy.

I'm 58 and post menopause.

It's not like I haven't done it before (so many times) so I know what works. It just won't this time

OP posts:
MazekeenSmith · 17/04/2021 12:35

TDEE calculator says your TDEE is 1700 a day if you're fairly sedentary. You should have lost 1lb at that rate. You probably have - but if your salt levels were lower on one of the weighing days it would have either made you weigh a bit more on weigh in or a bit less on your initial weigh. When the margins are so small it's easy to mask weight loss with normal fluctuations. Stop crying and carry on :)

Northernsoullover · 17/04/2021 12:37

I feel your pain. I drastically reduced my calories and upped the exercise. Back in February. The scales didn't move until April and its only 5lbs. Don't give up. I could have so easily said 'fuck it' because I didnt lose pounds or inches. 5lbs is 10 packs of butter. If I visualise it like that I feel better.

BIWI · 17/04/2021 12:42

Sorry, but if you've been including pulses and fruit it that isn't 'very few carbs'!

I know how frustrating it feels though when you think you've worked really hard and feel that you haven't achieved anything. But put a positive spin on it - it sounds like you've eaten well, i.e. good quality nutrition, rather than junkier food, and you've been taking exercise, which is good for you as well.

One thing though, if you hate walking, there's no need to do it. Weight loss is at leat 80% about diet and 20% exercise - even less if you read someone like Dr Jason Fung. As the expression goes 'you can't outrun your fork'!

Why don't you come and join us on the current low carb Bootcamp? We're only in the first week, so easy to catch up. (Although we're on the second chat thread already!)

TheABC · 17/04/2021 12:44

It took me a month to shift my first pound. 5"2 and was 11stone at the time. I was doing weights and cardio as well as food tracking. As other posters say it takes time.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 17/04/2021 14:07

Some people lose crapkoad first week, some people lose nothing or barely anything.

You don't need to lose loads so it won't be falling off immediately and easily.

Don't get frustrated, change the outlook on it. You are moving, your body will be healthier and you get fitter.
You are looking at what you eat and your body will be healthier.
The weight will go too.

idontlikealdi · 17/04/2021 18:22

Most people lose 5lb or so in water weight. Are you accurately tracking and weighing? By eye doesn't work.

Pomped · 17/04/2021 18:25

I know this sounds unusual and not sure of the science behind it but I definitely notice a lag in gaining or losing weight. Like it takes a couple of weeks (or more) for my actions (good or bad) to take effect

SilverLiningSearching · 20/04/2021 18:13

I lost quite a lot at first but have now been stuck at the same weight for 3 weeks but sticking with it, something got to give at some point!

safetyzone · 20/04/2021 18:43

A week is not enough to show results, but you really shouldn't cut down so much, it makes you miserable. Don't walk if you don't want to, you need to be kind to yourself first. Consistency is key so you need to find something you can stick to long term without hating it in the first week.

ColouringPencils · 20/04/2021 19:01

Oh it's so boring and crap isn't it @DareIask. Flowers for you. I have been on a diet since January, had a couple of weeks off and know I have put loads back on. I can't bear to look and I can't stop eating. In a week or so (hopefully) I will start again, but I feel pissed off now rather than hopeful. I wish I could just be one of those people who hasn't spent their whole adult life thinking about their weight.

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 20/04/2021 19:05

Sounds like insulin resistance. Have a read of The Obesity Code by Jason Fung. Or if that's too heavy have a listen to intermittent Fasting Stories (podcast) from the beginning. Lots of people like you.
