How often do you weigh yourself?

Just read on the zoom thread that you have to weigh yourself every day. I usually do it once a week but sometimes skip a week if I sense it will be a gain. I’m recording my results on MFP app.

Once a week on the same day. Every day doesn't make sense as we fluctuate.

A tape measure is more useful than scales anyway.

StayingHere · 12/04/2021 14:10

When I was actively losing weight I weighed every day. Now I maintain, just once a week to check I'm within my range.

Girlintheframe · 12/04/2021 17:10

I'm the same as PP poster.
I used to weight daily, obviously taking into account that weight fluctuates but looking for the downward trend over all.
What if you weight yourself weekly and that's the day your body retains water or you've done a heavy work out the day before? If I was only weighting weekly and saw a gain I would find it disheartening.
Each to their own though as some people can find daily weighting very triggering.

speakout · 12/04/2021 17:14

I haven't weighed myself for around 12 years.

PurpleDaisies · 12/04/2021 17:18

Once a week for me and I ignore period weeks.

DuesToTheDirt · 12/04/2021 17:21

Fluctuation is exactly why weighing every day makes sense. If you weigh once a week you are still getting fluctuations, but it takes longer to see an average or a trend.

Plus, if you weigh every day you can see particular effects, like I put on up to 4lb after a takeaway Shock, and I go up at weekends when I indulge a bit more.

I don’t want to see those effects. It doesn’t help me to get obsessed with each little change every day. If you’re weighing on the same day each week at the same time, that’s going to show you whether you’re up, down or the same on the previous week which is good enough for most of us.

People have different preferences-no one way is right way everyone.

Last time I was weighed was when I had my gall bladder out. 2012 😂

DialsMavis · 12/04/2021 17:47

Every day so the fluctuations don't matter, but I am actively slimming atm. If I only weighed myself every week I would have been pissed off today when I was 3lb up but it doesn't actually matter as I can't have put on 3lb of fat overnight as I know what I ate yesterday. I then go by weekly average.

QueenPaw · 12/04/2021 17:49

Daily and put it into an app that makes a graph for me and calculates weekly, monthly and total loss

MintLampShade · 12/04/2021 17:53

I don't. My clothes tell me everything I need to know. Wish they didn't though haha Grin

speakout · 12/04/2021 17:56

My clothes tell me everything I need to know.

Exactly.
I don't own scales. I don't feel the need to know my weight.
I do know that I am fit and well, size 10 jeans that fitted me perfectly 10 years ago still fit me perfectly.
That's all I need to know. My weight is just a number.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 12/04/2021 17:57

Weekly. I did daily few times to see how different foods affect it and that my body is fucking mental and can't do normal thing and just decides 3kg up and down is fine🙄
Same day weekly.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 12/04/2021 17:58

My clothes tell me everything I need to know.

My were liars😂 Clothes can grow with you (at bigger sizes) waaaay too easily. Bugger

QueenPaw · 12/04/2021 18:10

See I can wear the same jeans and be 2 stone difference. And yes they might be a bit tighter or a bit looser but they're still comfortable
But it takes 3-4 stone for me to drop a dress size Angry

Pretty much every day. Interesting how much it varies - you assume it will be linear - and I have found it reassuring to have a trend rather than react to single occasional measurements

Yes, but when you're losing weight, it takes a big change before you feel it in your clothes. I'm a stone down and I'm only feeling it in my jeans now.

I weigh myself daily. I don't pay too much attention to the fluctuations. It's TOTM for me right now so I knew nothing would move the last few days.

Chucklebum · 13/04/2021 13:48

I can see the advantage of weighing every day for those of us who are trying to lose some weight. As in giving you the motivation to keep eating right for the day. I guess I prefer to see a reasonable loss on the scale versus a 100 grams down or up which is why I’ve been opting for every 7 - 10 days (I don’t do it on the same day each week). I am also losing very slowly at the moment so at least this way I see some sort of result. I do stick to morning only though, because my stomach is empty so I assume I weigh less!

I definitely weigh every day, and I write it down on my fridge. I now have several bits of papers stuck up with my weights on for every day since January. I love it, it means you can tell which days are anomolies and you get a good feel for your actual weight. And seeing the downwards trend each week is fantastic.

If I weighed myself just once a week, I wouldn't have a clear idea of what my weight was.

AuldFox · 13/04/2021 14:42

Once every two weeks. I also try on a vintage skirt with absolutely no stretch whatsoever about once a month as I tend to put on weight around my waist. Lots of modern clothes have plenty of give, I can put on loads of weight and they will still fit.

3babylady · 13/04/2021 14:43

Once a year at the beach for 20p alongside the telescopic binoculars.

EgSk · 13/04/2021 15:45

I weigh myself every 5-10 days . It’s all over the place . I’ve been consistently losing weight the past 3-4 months with no diet plan ( just making healthier choices and exercise). I like seeing the numbers go down so the longer I can wait the better ( but I don’t like to wait too long incase the weight isn’t coming off ).

I’m down 14 kilo but still have 8 kilo to go before I’m at a healthy weight 😩

MrsTophamHat · 13/04/2021 15:47

I prefer to weigh every day when i'm actively trying as i think if i was weighing once a week, I might weigh on a heavy day and find that disheartening.

ThatOtherPoster · 13/04/2021 15:50

Every day. I chart the daily weights in my HappyScale app which can predict what weight you'll; be on specific dates! Love it.

Then every week I chart my weight in my WW app. I've reached my Gold weight but I still weigh in.

Beans13 · 13/04/2021 17:30

When I was actively trying to lose weight o weighed myself everyday. It helped me see what fluctuations certain foods caused for me and also how it varies during my period week.

Now I'm maintaining I weigh twice a week
