Hi so I signed up for this and it starts on the 1st July and the aim is 10800 steps per day for three months. I currently weigh 20st 4lb and I figure it couldn't do any harm to up my activity everyday before I start so does anyone have any tips to increase my steps before July

Also while improving my own health and fitness I'm raising money for a good cause too x

Start small. You have a couple of months so week one aim for 1000 steps a day and then increase it by 1000 steps each week. Before you know it you will be finding those 10800 easy. Good luck :)

I signed up for it too!

You should check out walk at home videos on youtube, Jessica Smith and Leslie Sansone are the best. They're a great way to build up your fitness.

Gosh this is tempting - I didn't know about it (I have type 1).
Thanks guys and the tips of videos as I walk mostly on a treadmill.

I downloaded a free pedometer app on my phone. I thought at first I'd never do even 1000 steps but I got used to it and upped the number surprisingly quick. I've found it quite addictive. I often walk up and down the living room whilst browsing MN at the same time (have to be careful not to bang into anything).

Well today I managed 6000 so I'm getting there. Tomorrow I'm gonna take the toddler for a long walk to the park so hopefully I will hit closer to the 10000 a day I need

That's a brilliant start. Well done!

Have a nice walk tomorrow Smile

I’m also thinking of doing this but wondering how I’ll manage to fit so many steps in when I have a sedentary job!

Buy a bigger house!

Do things as they occur -take something upstairs immediately rather than putting it in the stairs to go up when you next go up. Take your coffee fir a walk around the garden instead of sitting down with it.

It's much easier to clock up your steps when everyday actions require more steps, small things like parking the car further away or getting off the bus a stop or two earlier

I live in a very small flat, it's much harder to get in my steps here, than when I live in at work as it's a big house.

Obviously walk when you can instead of taking the car. I make an effort to walk into the village rather than doing things 'on my way out' (in the car when heading out of the village)

Go out for a walk first thing. I like the early morning air & stillness before many people are up & about. Then a walk into the village later on.

At home I'll often make myself 'potter about' until I hit the next 500 or 1000 before sitting down.

I've been slack over the Easter Holidays, but will up my game when the kids are back to school next Tuesday.

Physically doing 10,000 steps I find easy enough, but fitting them in in non work days isn't as easy in my small house.

Good Luck.

My step counter is a cheap one (£30 I think), looks like a Fitbit, has worked well for years. Much easier than using a phone.
