I've been overweight to some degree for my entire adult life. I'm short and wear a size 16 bottom, 18 top. I haven't weighed myself in a long time.
I had a bad habit of eating before bed. I'd usually have tea and toast or a bowl of cereal or hot chocolate and plain biscuits.
Last year I started suffering with reflux/indigestion in the night. To counteract this i decided to try cutting out eating at bedtime. It really helped so I've continued with this.
Also in the last few months I've gone back to work so I'm in a routine and much more active. I eat a small lunch and no picking at food during the day.
I haven't even dropped a dress size. I don't weigh myself but I know by my clothes that I haven't lost any weight at all. It's very surprising. I've definitely cut my calorie intake quite a bit and am more active.
It's quite disappointing really.

You’ve obviously not cut it enough to be in a deficit.

NewjobOldme · 28/03/2021 02:14

I suppose so but I had maintained the same size for a long time up to that so I thought that dropping calories and increasing activity might have made some impact.

But in that time you’ve got older, which impacts how many calories you need. Are you near menopause age, because that will make a difference too.

Lbnc2021 · 28/03/2021 02:17

You need to list exactly what you are eating and the portion sizes and what your maintenance calories are and cut it from there

NewjobOldme · 28/03/2021 02:24

I wasn't actively trying to loose weight really. I stopped eating late at night because of the indigestion and it worked.
I'm just surprised that two lifestyle changes didn't have any impact at all.

I feel you OP. I never used to lose weight but adjusting my calories slightly, the only thing that kickstarted it was fasting.
I think I have a slow metabolism. I'm never really hungry but never really full. Always had IBS and indigestion but it's all gone now. I don't eat anything until 4pm and then I can eat what I want and not have to calorie count (within reason) or worry about low carb, no carb nonsense.
Trouble is, everyone gets very evangelical about weightloss and what worked for them might not work for you. Just give it a try and see how you feel. I do 16 hour fasts monday to Friday then eat what I want on the weekends. I don't miss a boring cheese sandwich on a Wednesday as I know I can have pasta and garlic bread at the weekend and still lose.
18 down to a 12 in less than a year.
Good luck, and remember you're doing great.

I have really bad news. Clothes are not as good indicator of weigh gain/maintenance/loss as people hope them to be.
Much of clothes happily grows a size with you. They certainly did with me. These changes are simlly not big enough to lose a size or more. You may absolutely have lost a little bit, but it just doesn't show because it's a small amount and the bastarding clothes adjusted.

Sometimes people eat less times but instead have calorie heavier main meal without realising. or any other thing. There is just so many variables in the end to be able to say why you have not seen any change.

Glad you found something to help the reflux. I had it couple of times at night and oh my. Horrible.

Weight loss isn't just about calories though.

What is a typical day's food and drink like for you?

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 28/03/2021 11:27

Get a tape measure and take proper measurements if you don't want to weigh clothes have too much give and flex so they're difficult to use as a gauge. To give a real life example all my clothes were size 22 and tight. I was able to keep wearing them without looking like a scarecrow or being at risk of losing my trousers till I was a comfortable size 18.

It is worth tracking your calories using a tool like MyFitnessPal, some healthy foods like nuts and seeds are surprisingly high calorie.

Cut back on sugar and carbs. Up your protein.
